376002 stands at platform 2, Bromley North after working the 11:39 London Bridge-Bromley North. This was the first time a class 376 had run in passenger service, working a special shadow passenger working slotted inbetween the existing Bromley North shuttle.

This photo of 376002 shows how 'boxy' the front looks on these units. The units are part of Bombardiers 'Electrostar' range, and have many common features with the 375 fleet, replacing slam door stock for South Eastern Trains.

The other end of 376002 stands at the buffers at Bromley North. The unit is displaying headcode '11 Bromley North', 11 presumably being the London Bridge-Bromley North headcode. This is a route that does not normaly have direct trains, passengers having to change at Grove Park for Sundridge Park and Bromley North. The 376's will are not intended to work to Bromley North in normal service, so the shadow passenger runs on the week begining 16th August 2004 will give possibly the only oppertunity to see at unit at Bromley North.

376002 passes through platform 2 empty coaching stock prior to working the 11:39 to Bromley North, the first passenger working for a 376. The train was schedualed to stop at platform 2 and reverse to form the service, but instead went straight through up to Cannon Street and reversed to come back into platform 1 to form the Bromley North service.

376002 enters platform 1 at London Bridge from which it will enter passenger service for the very first time. It was by this time already 10 minutes late at 11:49, hopefully not how things will continue! The following service did leave Bromley North on time.

Finally 376002 comes to a halt and is ready to enter passenger service. To my suprise the service was actually advertised at London Bridge, which I did not expect as it was a shadow working, it was not advertised at any other station however. The passengers boarding the first train included several enthusiasts, some regular customers for Hither Green, Grove Park and Bromley North and South Eastern Trains Chief Executive!

The unit stands here after working the first return trip back from Bromley North to London Bridge, this time using platform 3. The unit was due to run trips to Bromley North severl times that day, and to repeat the diagram for the entire week, to test the unit under passenger conditions.

New and not so new as 465239 stands alongside 376002. The new 376's will work alongside the 465 and 466 'networkers' when they are fully operational on inner suberban routes. The 376 looks remarkably clean and is pleasant to travel on compared to the networkers, which have suffered badly from being constantly on inner suberban routes. South Eastern Trains are hopefull that the 376's will not get into a state similar to the networkers, as amongst other features they include CCTV and a plastic coating on the windows to prevent 'etching'. Only time will tell if they will suffer less than their older companions.

from Tuesday 10th to Thursday 12th August 376002 was put on public display at Cannon Street. The public and other members of SET staff were invited to view the new unit, leave feedback and talk to staff about it. The cab was also open for people to look at and the driver was happy to show visitors round the cab, and show off it's features. It is unfortunate that Cannon Street is such an awful location for photos, as can be seen here the light is all completely wrong for a good picuture!

The other end of 376002 while on show at Cannon Street. The design of the cab takes some getting used to, as it is very similar to that of a 375, but without the corridor connection. The space of the corridor connector is instead taken by a 3rd window, however the trains structure is unchanged so a corridor could be fitted if it is later required. The 376's are all fitted with Delner couplers and can run in multiple up to a 2 units to form a 10 car train (2x5car units).

The cab of 376002. There are many luxurious features for the driver to enjoy, including air conditioning, a very comfy chair (I know-I've tried it!), an electricity point and even a CD player! You can see here the screen of the onboard computer, which despite being very modern runs on windows 95 as it is less suceptable to viruses. There is a small window on this side of the cab.

A closer view of the main control pannel in the cab of 376002. The number of controlls and buttons is quite incredible when compared to earlier trains such as the southen regions Mk1 EMU's.

376002 passes ECS through London Bridge platform 1 following it's final day of public display at Cannon Street. The unit is travelling back to Grove Park depot.
