The Top 5 songs of 2006.  If the Top 10 is the best of the best, then the Top 5 must logically be the best of the best of the best.  These singles simply took over the Top 50 in 2006.  Well over 20 weeks in the Top 50, nearly as many in the Top 25.  And, of course, most of them hit #1 as well.

5. My Will Be A Dead Man by Project 86
Project 86 put on one of the best live shows of 2006 on a rainy afternoon in June at Alive Festival.  They also put out one of 2005's best discs, which ended up giving 2006 two of it's Top 100 hits.
My Will Be A Dead Man was the best of the two, managing to crack the Top 5.  It debuted in the Top 50 on March 15 at #46.  It spent 29 weeks in the Top 50, including two weeks at #1.  It also spent 21 weeks in the Top 25 and 12 in the Top 10.  My Will Be A Dead Man is easily one of the hardest, edgiest tracks on the Top 100, but it simply continues to prove that Project 86 is one of the premier musical acts around.

4. Hold Me Down by Motion City Soundtrack
Motion City Soundtrack followed up a strong late surge in 2005 with a very strong 2006.  As Motion City Soundtrack's third single to make the Top 100,
Hold Me Down became the biggest hit of the three.  It debuted in the Top 50 on March 1 at #37.  It spent 26 weeks in the Top 50, peaking with two weeks at #1.  It spent 22 weeks in the Top 25 and 14 in the Top 10.  Motion City Soundtrack became one of the chart's premier acts in 2006, and with a forthcoming new release, 2007 certainly has the potential to be big as well.

3. Kerosene by Miranda Lambert
Two Top 10 singles makes for an impressive artist.  Two Top 10 singles that never reached #1?  It seems almost unheard of.  Yet, at #3, Miranda Lambert's
Kerosene never hit the top spot.  In fact, when it first hit the Top 50, it looked as though it would be lucky to make the Top 10.  Kerosene debuted on November 2, 2005 at #24.  It would gradually rise and eventually peak at #2.  However, it had the best run on the chart in history, spending a chart record 33 weeks in the Top 50.  It spent 24 weeks in the Top 25 and eleven in the Top 10.  33 weeks in the Top 50 is an incredible feat, and it is what ended up putting Miranda Lambert in 2006's Top 5.

2. Love Addict by Family Force 5
Family Force 5 was the year's best new artist.  There is no way to argue that fact.  But, as if that honor hadn't already been locked up, the band nearly came out with 2006's top single.  Instead,
Love Addict took home the #2 spot, which is still an incredible milestone for a new artist.  Love Addict debuted in the Top 50 relatively quietly on April 12, closing out that week's chart in the #50 spot.  It would drop out for two weeks, but it would then return, again at #50.  Then the run began.  In all, Love Addict would tie Miranda Lambert with 33 weeks in the Top 50.  Three of those weeks were spent at #1.  In all, 19 weeks were spent in the Top 25 and 12 in the Top 10.  Family Force 5 had an incredible run on the chart in 2006 and enters 2007 looking to continue to gain even more momentum.
