And so we enter the Top 10.  The year's ten best songs.  These are the songs that took it a step further than every other song this year.  Nearly all were #1 hits, all in the Top 50 for upwards of 20 weeks.  The genres are all represented, and the songs are superb.  These are, quite simply, the best of the best.

10. Sound Off by Mars Ill
Mars Ill simply would not be denied of a Top 10 hit in 2006.
When Heaven Scrapes The Pavement did incredibly well and came in at #15.  But Sound Off started Mars Ill's year off with a bang.  The lead single from the very long-awaited release from Dust and manCHILD debuted in the Top 50 on May 10 at #40.  It spent 25 weeks in the Top 50 and spent two weeks in the #1 spot.  Sound Off also spent 19 weeks in the Top 25 and eleven in the Top 10.  With a disc that was at the very top of the list in 2006, it is certainly no surprise that Mars Ill managed two Top 25 hits from it.

9. New Strings by Miranda Lambert
Two singles.  That's all Miranda Lambert managed on the chart in 2006.  But, in a truly impressive feat, both of those singles managed to make the year's Top 10.  The first of those singles is
New Strings, which debuted in the Top 50 on April 5 at #43.  The track spent a whopping 28 weeks in the Top 50, peaking with two weeks at #3.  New Strings also spent 20 weeks in the Top 25 and eleven in the Top 10.  Though the track is one of a select few from 2006's Top 25 to not hit #1, it was a consistently strong hit which managed to keep hanging around the Top 50, leading to New Strings become one of the Top 10 single in 2006.

8. When Did You Fall by Chris Rice
The ultimate love song of 2006,
When Did You Fall was the #1 single from the first half of 2006.  Ultimately, it dropped out of the top spot and out of the top five, but Chris Rice still managed a strong Top 10 hit.  When Did You Fall debuted in the Top 50 on November 9, 2005 at #21.  It spent 25 weeks in the Top 50, with three weeks at #1.  It also spent 21 weeks in the Top 25 and 14 in the Top 10.  The early hit of 2006 stayed strong until the end of the year, and Chris Rice's second single in the Top 100 got into the Top 10.

7. What's Wrong With This World by Shaun Groves
Shaun Groves followed up a strong 2005 with a relatively quiet, but no less strong, 2006.
What's Wrong With This World debuted in the Top 50 on December 14, 2005 at #39.  It spent 29 weeks in the Top 50, peaking at #3.  Groves' single also spent 19 weeks in the Top 25 and ten in the Top 10.  Another single to make the year's Top 10 without hitting the top spot, Groves just managed to stay around the Top 50 for over half of 2006.  What's Wrong With This World easily became one of the year's best singles.

6. Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol
Snow Patrol exploded in 2006, both in the mainstream radio world and on the chart.
Hands Open became one of 2006's Top 100, but it was Chasing Cars that really put Snow Patrol into the category of "successful artist."  The track debuted in the Top 50 on May 24 at #45.  it spent 27 weeks in the Top 50, including two weeks at #1.  Chasing Cars spent 20 weeks in the Top 25 and 13 in the Top 10.  One of 2006's #1 tracks, Chasing Cars was a big hit and is simply one of 2006's best.
