FACTORSThe elements of a retrieve that make it more complicated or difficult. For example, wind, terrain, cover, ditches, type of flyer, angle of throw, tightness/closeness of retrieve, type of bird and if itis dead or a live shot flyer, etc.
FALLThe spot on the ground and it's surrounding area where the item to be retrieve fell. Also called "AREA OF FALL"
FLAIRINGWhen a dog avoids continuing on a straight line on which he was sent. This is often due to pressure in training or in reaction to natural factors of terrain and water etc. Similar to "BANANA"
FLAT THROWA bird or bumper thrown directly across from the thrower, ie, neither back nor in. From the dog's point of view it is a 90 degree throw.
FLOWER POTTwo marks are thrown from one gun station, on to each side. Also called "FOUNTAIN" and "MOM POP"
FLUSHING: The dog forcing the bird to leave the ground and take flight.
FLYERA live bird shot for the dog to retrieve.  Used as a description for the live shot flyer station in a test.
FORCE FETCH/TRAININGThe process used to train a dog to pickup, hold, carry and drop an object on command. Generally accomplished after the adult teeth are in place in the 6 to 10 month age range.
FORCE TO PILEAn extension of Force Fetching. Pressure of some sort is applied in association with a command to go. This process is done in some circles to prepare the dog for running blind retrieves.
FOUNTAINSee "FLOWER POT" also called "MOM POP"
FREEZINGA dog's total refusal or inability to give the bird to the handler. Can be intentional on the part of the dog or an uncontrollable intensity with glassy eyes and incoherency. An unintentional freeze can be due to stress factors such as a live bird struggling, great amounts of blood or a bird mangled by a poor shot. There can also be an intentional refusal to release the bird to the handler because the dog wishes to keep the bird for himself.
GALLERYObservers and spectators of a hunting test. The judges and marshal usually direct where the gallery should be during a hunt test.
GO BIRDIn a multiple mark situation, it is generally the first mark a dog will pick up and the last one down.
GUN SHYAfraid of gunfire.
GUNNER/SThe person(s) firing a gun and shooting the bird.
GUN STATIONLocation of gunners and throwers in the field who throw or shoot a mark. Normally the "gunner station" is the live shot flyer and the "pop and thow" would be a dead bird.
