| DE-BOLTING: A term identifying the process used to teach the dog it can not "run away" from the stimulation caused by the electronic collar. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DECOY: Plastic duck or goose put out to attract ducks or geese in hunting situations, dogs have to be trained to ignore decoys and definitely not retrieve them. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DELAYED BIRD: A bird shot after one or more birds of a multiple mark has been retrieved by the dog. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DELIVERY TO HAND: A requirement that the dog deliver the bird to it's handler in a controlled, trained, willing and obedient manner. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DIVER: A duck that tries to evade the dog by diving under the water instead of swimming on the surface. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DIVERSION BIRD: A distraction, of some sort, including but not limited to a bird, a shot, a person moving, talking, yelling or walking, etc. done in dog games to test against switching, or dropping. Diversions in dog games are commonly a thrown bird as the dog returns from a retrieve. Sometimes these become part of a delayed mark. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DIVERSION SHOT: A gunshot often used to signify the imaginary shooting of the bird planted for a blind. This can be at a different location than the blind and can be done while the handler and dog are in a holding blind or on the dogs return from a previous mark. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DOG: Male canine. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DOUBLE: See "MARKS". Two marks or two blinds. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| DRAGBACK: Scent trail left by dogs returning with birds, especially through high cover where the bird's scent is left on the vegetation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DRAW/DRAWING: After receiving all entries for a test, the hunt test committee will draw names for determining the running order of the test. This is normally printed in a catalogue and available the day of the test to all participants. Participants may be run in an order other than what is printed in the catalog, at the discretion of the hunt test committee or judges. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DROPPED: Not called back to continue the test. Disqualification from a hunt test. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DRY GUN/SHOT: A gunner who fires without an accompanying thrown bird. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DUCK BAND: A metal band that would normally go on the leg of a duck or fowl. They are usually awarded with a ribbon for a qualifying run in a hunt test. Often worn on the lanyard of hunt test particpants as tokens of achievement. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| DUMMY COLLAR: A collar that is the exact duplicate of an E-collar in size, shape, and weight but can not produce electrical stimulation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| E-COLLAR: Electronic correction collar. A tool (transmitter) used by the trainer and (collar) worn by the dog that enables the trainer to make an instant correction from a distance through the use of small amounts of electricity. | EAR PINCH: A part of a Force Fetch program whereby the handler pinches the dog's ear until the desired result is achieved. The handler will say, "Fetch!" and pinch the dog's ear, dog opens mouth and lunges for bumper, ear pinch stops the second the dog is holding the bumper or retrieve object. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ERASER BIRD: A bird thrown from a high power winger or mechanism which often crosses over the lines of previous marks or blinds and is designed to "erase" or "wipe out" the memory of the dog of any or all previous marks. Often set off like a diversion mark on the way back from a retrieve, often comes from near the line and crosses in front of the line, handler and judges and over top of or through the proper straight line to other previous marks. Also called "WIPER BIRD" | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| EATING THE BIRD: When the dog eats any or all of the bird that should have been retrieved and delivered to the handler. Usually instant disqualification from a hunt test. Often the result of too much pressure during training or from a hunt test situation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ENTRY: The place where the line to the blind enters the water, if it is at an angle, it is called an angle entry. Also a method by which the dog enters the water, as in style and/or enthusiasm etc. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
