| C/T(CLICK AND TREAT): Clicker Training or Click and Treat. A training method based on positive reinforcement, which uses a mechanical click to mark, the exact moment a desirable behavior occurs. A treat of food, happy bumpers etc. always follows a click, which becomes a reward, or reinforcement, in itself. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CALL BACK: A list which denotes those who are invited back to continue participating in the event. Those who do not make the "call back" have been disqualified for some reason. This is usually following each series of a test. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CAMPAIGNING: The activity of entering dogs in tests in pursuit of a title. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| CERF/C.E.R.F.: Abbreviation for the Canine Eye Registry Foundation. A registry created to evaluate and clear breeding dogs of hereditary defects including Progressive Retinal Atrophy and Retinal Dysplasia. | CHEATING: When a dog avoids water, cover or obstacles enroute to or returning from an item to be retrieved. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CHEWING: A dog that increases and decreases pressure on a bird in his mouth. Usually leads to damaging the bird's feathers. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CKC: Canadian Kennel Club Hunt Tests Titles and Levels - JH (Junior Hunter), SH (Senior Hunter), MH (Master Hunter) Junior Level: Consists of Senior Level: Consists of Master Level: Consists of CKC also offers a series of Working Certificates. Titles of WC, WCI and WCX can be achieved. Working Certificate Level: Consists of Working Certificate Intermediate Level: Consists of Working Certificate Excellent Level: Consists of CKC working certificate titles go after the dog's name and are earned by qualifying in 1 WC event, 1 WCI event and 1 WCX event. | COLD: A term used to define the running of a dog on a concept it is familar with but the exact placement of the item is new to the dog. When we train, we generally run our dogs on "cold" marks and/or blinds. Our dogs know how to mark or run a blind, but they don't know the exact location of this specific mark or blind. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| COLLAR CONDITIONING: A process by which the dog is taught how to understand collar stimulation or correction. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CONTROLLED BREAK: When the dog leaves to make the retrieve before being sent but is immediately brought under control by the handler and returned to line or heel. A controlled break is often allowed in the intermediate levels of hunt tests but with significant mark down of points. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| COVER: Any type of vegetation covering the ground or water, can be light, medium or heavy, thick or thin, etc.. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CREEP/CREEPING: The dog moving forward of the line while marking or being lined up for a blind, often proceeds or verges on breaking. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CRIP: Slang for a crippled bird. A bird that has been shot and felled but is still alive. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| CRUNCHING: A dog which bites down on a bird hard enough to break the bones...making a crunching sound. Very undesirable as it damages the meat intended for human consumption based on the hunting principle. Can be reason for failing a dog in a hunt test. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CUE/CUEING: A verbal or physical clue to the dog such as the phrase "Dead Bird" indicating a blind, or an instruction such as "water" meaning get in it! Also volume of words can be a cue such as saying the dog's name quietly on a short mark when releasing him to retrieve, or loudly for a bird that is very far away. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
