Question ME further
What affect can stress have on the illness?
Stress can unfortunately have a very negative effect on someone with ME for example it can make your symptoms worse or you may get additional symptoms such as headaches or migraines, back and posture problems, nervousness and a higher heart rate. So it is important to avoid stress as much as possible. Some people with ME believe that the stresses they feel can become a barrier to them recovering because stressful situations can lead to setbacks.
Can people with ME exercise?
This completely depends on the severity of the illness. It is important that people who can exercise do so however if you push yourself too far you are likely to suffer severe setbacks and relapses. I would suggest some sort of low impact exercise for example I have just started yoga.
Are there any foods and drinks people with ME should avoid?
Most people find that they are no longer able to cope with drinking alcohol although I have never experienced any difficulties in this department but I think hangovers seem worse than before. You should also consider drinking only decaffeinated drinks. Some people develop food intolerances but fortunately I do not suffer from that. I think the best advice is to avoid fatty junk foods as exercise is minimal you will put on weight which is hard to lose.
