Question ME continued
Is CFS a physical illness?
At this moment in time most doctors seem to have come around to the fact that CFS is a genuine illness, although of course there are some who remain stubbornly unconvinced of this fact. But then they are not the ones who live with this illness 24/7. I would never wish ill health on anyone but If these people or their loved ones became ill with this they would soon change their mind and hopefully be a bit more respectful. However as with any chronically debilitating physical illness it comes with a certain amount of psychological difficulties. You wouldnt be being truthful with yourself if you denied this fact.
How do I go about getting specialist help?
This is a tricky one as the need far outstretches the services available. For example Oldchurch hospital in London where I received my treatment only has six beds for inpatient use and they take people from all over the country. There is specialist hospital in Leeds, which offers mainly outpatient appointments, but it does have two beds for inpatient use. And lastly there is a hospital in Great Yarmouth although they do not see people on an outpatient basis. Personally I think the best way to find out what specialist services are available in your area is though you GP, although I accept this may not be possible if your Doctor is unsupportive of your condition and what you need. If this is the case perhaps you could get in touch with a local ME support group, or perhaps you could look in a ME magazine for example Action for M.E or M.E Association.
What are the symptoms of CFS?

Symptoms seem to vary from one person to the next but the main ones seem to be:
Problems with short-term memory, and/or concentration which makes everyday functioning very difficult. You need these skills whether youre working, at school or just going out with your mates.
Muscle pain. I find that I quite often strain or pull muscles in my legs usually when I go from sitting to walking.
Headaches that are worse than you have experienced before you became ill.
When you wake up from sleeping your more tired than before you went to bed.
