| This section is for people to discuss whatever issues they may have relating to the illness or their lives in general. I will select a topic for us to talk about every month but if you have something you wish to discuss then forward it to my e-mail address and I may use it. These pages are completely un-moderated as I am interested in what people really think and I don't want people worrying about whether they can say this or that. Just say what you feel hence the name 'honestly me'. | ||||||||||||||||||
| If you could of chosen when you became ill, would you of choosen when you were younger or older? (Obviously you would have prefered not to become ill in the first place, but we had no choice in that) | ||||||||||||||||||
| hmm, I would get it at a young age, like actaualy happened to me, cos although u miss alot of your childhood and growing up, you become a very mature person later in life from your experiances, i believe theres alot to be learnt from our experiances and that they shape us for the better. plus, later in life, theres so much more to do thats moe important, plus u can go to all the parties!! | Well I am a firm believer that things happen when they are supposed to. I have a tremendous support system right now so I think now as an adult-I wouldnt have changed when I got ill. Michele |

| Hi hannah, thats a good question.I think i would have preffered not to have become ill like you say but if i had to i think i would have preffered it when i was very young to be honest, because they say you are more resiliant (if thats the right word) to things when you are young and you get over things quicker. So maybe we wouldnt have to suffer as much as we are doing now plus we would have the rest of our lives to get on with the things we should be doing now. Hope this helps, take care michaela | ||||||||||||||||||
| My answer to your question would be....I'd rather have the illness older. I am 48 now, was dx with FMS at 46, 2 yrs ago this Aug. The reason I prefer being older, is ; *1- at least I was able to raise my 3 children & have the energy to keep up w/them *2-I could work long enough to build up my SS, so I am now drawing my SS Disability (sorta an early retirement) * at my age now, I at least have fond memories of my younger healthier days. | my answer to that question would definately be older. I first got diagnosed at 18 but had some symptoms at 16, and my sister got diagnosed at 14 and had symptoms at 13 although we had signs of hms since birth. I say older cos I was lucky in the fact I had a pretty normal school life but my late teenage years and now my early 20's are nothing like they should be. I have no friends that arent relatives and cant work or drive or dance or run or even walk far. I have no husband/boyfriend and will find it really hard to find someone who understands and wants to be with me. If Id have gotten it older I would have hopefully been able to bring up my kids and I think when your older at least you can say I did that. Rather than I didn't. But none of us can choose its a shame but I suppose on the advantage side of geting it younger at least I will find a man who truely love me for me and I think it makes you stronger and determined and makes you fight for what you believe in. Plus it makes you not take things for granted and not ignorant to other peoples feelings make you more aware of hardship when you get ill younger or maybe just when you get ill full stop. Dayna |

| I actually got sick when I was 7 years old. So have been sick since then, and got CFS at age 15. So I can't remember what it is like to be well at all. Hmmm.. it's too hard to decide. But if I get well now, I have the rest of my life to do things. But I also feel I have wasted the last 12 years of having CFS not being able to work toward my goals. Suvi |

| Well I found out I had fms this year I am 39 years old and I know there are many younger people then I who have this illness. I wish I did not have this if we are healthy in are young years we can enjoy life more. I am learning to enjoy life and not be in such a rush like I used to be. Angela |
