#1 2003 The Year in Review (Part One)
December 26th 2003
Hey everyone and welcome to the first of several feature articles exploring this eyar and Dragonball Z. I hope you guys and girls had an awesome Christmas and got what you wanted and had a fun time. With no real news happening at the moment I thought I'd write some articles starting with the year in review. Month by month this article explores what happened this year in the world of DBZ both in news and on this site as well.....

JANUARY
January 1st - I announced on this site that Sean Schemmel, the voice of Goku, would be appearing at the Auckland Armageddon expo in April.
January 9th - Its announced that Jakks Pacific, makers of wrestling toys, will take over from Irwin Toy as makers of Dragonball Z toys.
January 12th - This site can eb accessed for the first time by typing in www.ge3000.cjb.net
January 17th - TV3 announces the sad return of Sticky TV and that it will not feature Dragonball Z
January 18th - I discover that the Legacy of Goku 2 and Ultimate Battle 22 will be released
January 23rd - Dragonball Z is mentioned on Buffy: The Vampire Slayer in an episode screening in the USA. The same episode plays in NZ later in the year
January 24th - The Dragonball GT website appears at www.dragonballgt.com with the words coming soon
FEBRUARY
February 4th - Score announces they will be producing the Dragonball GT: Trading Card Game
February 8th - I change my online name from gohan2000nz to gohan2k in order to shorten it so I can begin posting on Dragonball.co.nz. I do my first news post on the site the following day.
February 12th -The Dragonball GT website opens properly with previews of Dragonball GT and many fans hear the Dragonball GT theme for the first time...and vomit. One website, Daizenshhu Ex's hits rise when they tell Funimation to "go f**k themselves" over their decision to use this theme instead of the original theme "Dan Dan"
February 14th - Funimation announces they will be skipping the first fifteen episodes of GT, This site passes 15,000 hits.
MARCH
March 1st - The Babidi saga of the DBZ CCG is released. It is announced that the UK will get Dragonball GT before the USA but they will get an alternate version which keeps the original music and doesn't skip episodes.
March 2nd - It is announced that the Dragonball and Dragonball Z graphic novels will be reprinted in a smaller format as the Shonen Jump editions with a cheaper price.
March 9th - This website holds its first "Extreme Competition" with the prize being a card personally autographed by Stephanie Nadolny, voice of kid Gohan. The winner is Josie Ponce of Nelson.
March 17th - The final fifteen episodes of Dragonball Z begin screening in the USA
March 21st - This sites first and only Elite Affiliate, Dragonball.co.nz closes after a short time due to server difficulties. Dragonball.co.nz was a great success and it was sad to see it go especially as webmaster, SFranky, let me write on the site!
March 25th - Its a great day for anime as Spirited Away wins an Oscar for Best Animated Feature
March 30th - TV3 announces Dragonball Z will begin playing as repeats Saturdays at 8.30am playing the Trunks saga.
APRIL
April 12-14th - I attend the Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo where I meet and get autogrpahs from the voice of Goku, Sean Schemmel, see my first Dragonball episode, see Super Android 13 and the DBGT opening for the first time as well One girl dresses up as Videl for the cosplay contest who I think is very good and later emails me. The Kamehameha contest kicks some serious ass with Hayley coming third in the all ages Robb, Matthew, Lisa and Ben come first and second in the All Ages and Junior contests.
April 15th - Ultimate Battle 22 is finally released in NZ after a lengthy delay
April 16th - The first two volumes of Dragonball GT are relased in the uSA and sell extrememly well.
April 20th - Its announced that Chris Sabat, vocie of VegetaPiccolo and others will be coming to NZ for the Wellington Armageddon in September
April 21st - Sky Digital plays the first four DBZ movies and both specials on Cartoon Network
April 24th - TV3 announces New Dragonball Z will begin in four days playing Monday-Thursday
April 28th - TV3 begins playing the final season of Dragonball Z in New Zealand but shockingly skip sixteen episodes missing the part where Gopku goes Super Saiyan 3 for the first time and the first fusion of Gotenks! TV3 later reveals that the skipped episodes will never be played! Boo TV3!! Boo!!!
MAY
May 2nd - The official DBZ site announces that there will be a range of DBZ themed video game accesories to be released for the Gameboy Advanced and PS2 but sadly these are never relased in New Zealand...
May 3rd - After a previously failed attempt this site second competion begins with the prize being Dragonball Z Volume 5.1 Majin Buu - Revival. The eventual winner is Willem Van Gent of Maukau, Auckland.
May 7th - This site declares this day as Dragonball Z Day as several DBZ events happened on this date.
May 9th - The announcement is made that the first Dragonball Z Budokai will be released on the Nintendo Gamecube.
May 13th - Some rumoured info is released about the upcoming DBZ live action movie on the website Saiyanz Rage. This info is later declared by Funimation on the official DBZ website as being completely untrue.
May 14th - The Buffy episode which mentions Dragonball Z screens in New Zealand
May 16th - The final Dragonball Z release Kid Buu - A New Beginning is released in New Zealand, Dragonball Z: Taiketsu is announced
May 23rd - Funimation confirms that the skipped first fifteen episodes of DBGT will be released after the end of Dragonball GT, the first preview of the eighth Dragonball Z movie "Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan" is released.
JUNE
June 2nd - TV3 screens the mini series called "The Monky King" which is based upon the same story that DBZ was based on even featuring Goku's nimbus and power pole.
June 16th - More DBZ live action news is announced including that Roland Emmerich will be the director with Hugh Jackman, Ray Park and Orlando Bloom in the cast.
June 17th - Funimation announces that they will be using music from "real" band in the eighth DBZ movie including Pantera.
June 18th - Dragonball becomes one of only five subjects to remain on Lycos weekly top 50 chart for 200 consecutive weeks.
June 27th - The Legacy of Goku 2 is released in New Zealand
June 30th - This sites third compeition begins...

Wow! That was a lot longer than I thought it would be! So long in fact that the second half of the year will have to wait for another day! Also coming up soon is what to lookm forward to for 2004 plus...the end...?
