Cartoon Network DBZ Extravaganza
Cartoon Network will be screening the first four DBZ movies as well as the two DBZ specials back-to-back tommorow in a six hour marathon. They will be screening History of Trunks, Bardock: The Father of Goku, DeadZone, The Worlds Strongest, Tree of Might and Lord Slug starting at 1.30pm. I won't be watching them as I will be working at that time and don't have Sky Digital anyway... But if you do then make sure you check them out!

Brolli Revealed!
The cover for the eighth Dragonball Z movie has been revealed. This movie is the first to have Gohan as a super saiyan and the first of many Brolli movies. The movies official title is Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan (Broly is another spelling for Brolli, I prefer Brolli as it keeps the whole "Saiyans are named after vegetables" thing. Brolli is Broccoli in case you were wondering). You can see the movies cover here. This movie will be released in the USA in August and in New Zealand around December. This news and image thanks to Saiyanz Rage.
Oh and I've decided to postpone the competition until Monday. Only one person entered. so I'll change it a bit and restart it on Monday as part of a promotion for New DBZ on TV3! Until then I'll hopefully finish some of this sites many unfinished sections such as Saiyan Transformations and Movie Sumamries (I already put up a movie summary for
Lord Slug so check that out). Also make sure you check out my review of the DBZ stuff that happened at the Auckland Pulp Expo 2003 in my DBZ at the Expo article. Oh and make sure you check this page for a special sneak preview of the DBZ episodes that begin on Monday..

New Dragonball Z is Back in NZ!!!
I was pleased to learn today than brand new Dragonball Z will begin on TV3 on this Monday 28th April starting with 'Evil Lives On" which continues straight on after "Final Atonement" in which Vegeta sacrifices himself in order to defeat Majin Buu. There will be at least 38 episodes starting on Monday but possibly there maybe as many as 54 although if there is it would mean that after they have all played trhat DBZ would be finished in New Zealand (as it already is in America). I am sorry for not reporting this earlier but I was tricked by the fact that on Friday's there will be no DBZ at 4.30 but instead there will be Basil Brush. I find it a rather strange coincidence that Yu-Gi-Oh! finished playing all its episodes in the same timeslot on TV2 and is now in repeats but who cares! New Dragonball Z is back!!
In other news the DBZ CCG New Zealand and Australia Regional tournament is happening in Victoria, Australia this Saturday. For more info on that click
here.

What is EC2?
For the last couple of days you may have noticed a faint "EC2 is Coming" at the bottom of my updates for the last couple of days as a build up to today so anyway What is EC2? EC2 is simply short for Extreme Competition 2. Yes thats right it's time for another competition so whats the prize this time you wonder?
Last time in the first Extreme Competition Josie Ponce of Nelson won herself a DBZ CCG card signed by the voice of Gohan, Stephanie Nadolny but this time the prize is different...
Not only do you get a video copy of the Dragonball Z TV special
Bardock: The Father of Goku which tells the story of Goku's father Bardock and his quest to stop the evil Frieza from destroying the Saiyan planet, Vegeta but you also get a DBZ CCG card (this one) signed by the voice of Goku, Sean Schemmel! How's that for a prize?
To enter go to
this page and check out the rules and stuff. Rather than have you guys ask me a question about DBZ instead this time you have to name your Favourite Moment/s from DBZ and why they are your favourites and email it to me with your name and the NZ city you live in and you could win!

Happy Easter 2003
Just a quick note to say Happy Easter to you all hope its been good for you and you get lots of chocolate (if thats what you like, not that I don't!). Also it seems that TV3 has got themselves a new logo which sadly takes up twice as much room at the bottom of the screen even though it is nicer than their old one. In accordance whith this change they've also altered their website which you can see by clicking here.
I've got a new comic for you at the bottom of this page "Bulma has a Baby" is a four part comic which tells the story of what might of happened in the moments leading up to the birth of Trunks!
And finally for those of you intrested in the TV series Yu-Gi-Oh! you might be intrested to know that the voice of Yugi (normal Yugi as well as Yami Yugi), Dan Green, will be coming to the Wellington Armageddon Expo on September 20-22nd. I don't really like Yu-Gi-Oh that much but I'm sure some of you do...I've already mentioned before that Chris Sabat (voice of DBZ's Piccolo, Vegeta, Yamcha and others) is also coming to NZ for the expo as well!

DBZ 5.15 and 5.16 Reviews, Ask Gohan section opens
I am pleased to announce the Ask Gohan section is now open! This new section encorages you to email me with your questions about DBZ or even to ask me a question (such as my favourite saga) there is answers to several questions there right now including When will new DBZ be back on TV in NZ, What Majin means and did Guldo get his head chopped off?
The Official Pulp Expo website has posted a three pages photos of what happened at the Armageddon which you can see here but only one is of any relevance to DBZ. This picture shows a particularly evil looking Sean Schemmel (voice of Goku).
And now onto reviews for the new DBZ releases that came out today..
DBZ 5.15 Kid Buu Vegeta's Plea
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
My Thoughts: It's good to see the old Fat Majin Buu again and this time hes back as the good guy! It's all very happy as the Earth is restored as well and Vegeta proves he's till the same impatient guy he always is...
DBZ 5.16 Kid Buu - The Price of Victory
Rating: 5 out of 5
My Thoughts: Awesome is the one word I'd use to describe this DVD I mean its got everytingyou'd ever want from Dragonball including the final defeat of Kid Buu! We also get to see people that haven't been seen in ages or not since Dragonball including Android 17, Launch, King Cold, Android 8, Bora, Upa and Babidi! Altogether an awesome thing to see! The only sad thing is that after this there's only four episodes of DBZ left to be seen!!
Well that's it for now I'll be back tommorow but until then a Good Friday to all and to all a good night!

Ultimate Battle 22 - The Verdict, DBZ 5.16 Preview
Went into the middle of Auckland city today to do some stuff firstly to see the movie Daredevil which was quite good but then my attention turned to DBZ. Firstly I purchased Bardock: The Father of Goku and The Return of Cooler on DVD which completed my collection of DBZ Movies and Specials on DVD. I also checked out a couple of issues of Shonen Jump which insides features comics of Dragonball Z, Yu-gi-Oh! and others for only $24.95! The March issue which can still be found in NZ has a exclusive DBZ CCG card inside as well! Finally I went to the Warehouse and got a DBZ easter egg
After that I found and decided to buy the DBZ fighting game for PS-One (it also works on a PS2)
Ultimate Battle 22 for $69.95. When I got home I immediately began playing and to be honest I found it a little dissapointing. The graphics are only slightly better, and the gameplay almost the same as the ROMs for Super Butoden 1-3 and Hyper Dimension, avaliable for trial at this site. This is good if you want to own one of those games and don't want to play with your computer keyboard (which is annoying). Just don't expect the graphics to be comparable to those found in the PS2 version of Budokai as the graphics for this game were done in 1995. The most annoying this however is the name and attack changes (which I'm assuming is only in the PAL version released in NZ, Australia and Europe) some are understandable like Kid Trunks is Trunk, Supreme Kai is Kaiohshin (his original Japanese name), Androids 18 and 16 are C16 and C18 (C stands for Cyborg) and Majin Buu is Majin Boo. Some name changes such as characters being called Ten Chin Han (Tien, a more accepted spelling would be Tenshinhan), Gotrunks (Gotenks), Likum (Recoome), Genious (Captain Ginyu), Super Bou (Super Buu) and the weirdest one, Genius Turtle (Master Roshi!) while the attacks are also renamed like Masen Light (Masenko), Burning Jet (Burning Attack) as well as several others whose names were so distorted I can't figure out what they really are yet. The upsides include the cool intro movie, the character selection of 22 characters including from the Buu saga, the manual which contains moves for every character as well as how to unlock the five secret characters (which includes Super Saiyan 3 Goku) and the Build Up mode which enables you to pick a character and strengthen him (or her) so you can battle a friends character to see who's stronger. All in all its not as good as Budokai but it's still better than the Legacy of Goku and Legendary Super Warriors while I'd give Budokai a 4.5/5 Ultimate Battle 22 I'd give a 3/5. Click here for a FAQ and Game Guide to the game.
For those of you in America you may wish to know that exclusive DBZ CCG cards will be avalaible inside the DBGT DVDs and videos. There are two cards one, Half Nelson, is only in
Affliction while the other, Grand Kai's Palace, is only in Incubation. See images of those cards here. The card in the vids will either be a normal card, a silver foil or an ultra rare gold foil. Its unlikely that these cards will be included in the DBGT NZ release.
And now heres a preview for ther second DBZ release tommorow, Volume 5.16
Dragonball Z Volume 5.16 Kid Buu - The Price of Victory
Features the episodes...
People of Earth Unite: When the people of Earth ignore even Goku's cry for help, it looks like defeat is imminent. But when the World Champion steps in and asks, the skeptical humans have a change of heart. Will their outpouring of energy arrive in time? Goku can only wait and watch in horror as Vegeta, his last defense, crumbles under the might of Majin Buu! (Episode 270)
Spirit Boom Triumphant: When the good Buu and Hercule free Vegeta from Majin Buu's grasp, Goku launches the Spirit Bomb! But the weary Saiyan doesn't have enough power to deliver the blast, and Buu sends it right back at him! Will Goku be destroyed by his own attack or can a last second wish to the Dragon save the day? (Episode 271)
Celebrations with Majin Buu: When Goku and his companions return to Earth after defeating Majin Buu, they are welcomed with open arms. But nobody is happy to see good Buu! Can the Champ's pink pal manage to fit into society? Or is he destined to become an outcast? (Episode 272)
Tommorow I'll have my own review of these releases!

The wicked Buu soon discovers the source of his pain, and it turns out to be a big, pink surprise! (Episode 267)
Earth Reborn: As the good Majin Buu wages an all out war against his evil counterpart, Vegeta has Dende summon the Dragon on the new Planet Namek. Through the miraculous power of the Dragonballs, the Earth and its inhabitants are restored to life! But with the good Buu's power rapidly decreasing, will Vegeta have enough time to carry out the final phase of his plan? (Episode 268)
Call to Action: With time running out, Goku desperately awaits the arrival of the Earthlings collective energy to vitalize the Spirit Bomb. But the energy isn't coming! Why have the people of the Earth turned a deaf ear to Vegeta's plea for help at this most critical hour? (Episode 269)
I'll put a preview of 5.16 on the site tommrow oh and don't forget to check out the new Dragonball comic "Vegeta Bowling" by Akira Toriyama himself at the bottom of this page!

DBZ at Armageddon Day Three - The Final Day
For the final day of the expo I arrived at midday and spent a while checking out the place for hidden bargains and hen I went to get my cards signed. This time I got King Kai and Nail cards signed. After having lunch I returned and got two more cards sgined which I will have for a competition soon! I also watched some episodes of Dragonball including "Enter King Piccolo" beofre they decided to play the Jimmy Neutron movie instead. At 4pm I went to watch the Junior Kamehameha contest which although was still cool was not as good as yesterdays one. The winner was a girl named Lisa who won herself and Gameboy Advance SP while second place went to Ben who got a Zoids toy and a Transfomers Armada vehicle. All sixty people who entered got a prize as well...After the Kamehameha contest there was a quick Q&A with Sean Schemmel and then he introduced the screening of DBZ Movie 7 - Super Android 13! The movie was cool and I recommend seeing it when it comes out in May.
Soon I'll put up a page with more info as well as pics of the expo so those of you who didn't make it there can see what went on. Sean Schemmel (voice of Goku) meanwhile leaves NZ tommrow and is heading off to L.A so thanks for visiting us in NZ Sean and we hope you'll be back!
As for the new Dragonball comic I'l add it tommorow...

DBZ at Armageddon Day Two - The Mania Continues...
Using my three day pass I again went to the Armageddon today. Today I took my little brother along with me and again stood in line for half in hour to get two more autographs from Sean Schemmel. While getting the autographs I also gave him a neater version of this sites address (so hopefully he'll find it now).
By the time I had got the autographs it was time for the Cosplay Contest and I went to see if anyone would be a DBZ character and surely enough there was as a girl named Hayley (not sure if I spelt that right) dressed up as Videl. She also did an awesome voice for him that was spot on (I told her it was good as well). Sadly she didn't win the contest but was in the top 10. While waiting for the Kamehameha contest to begin we were privleged to see half an episode of Dragonball GT ("A Grand Problem") and despite my earlier post it seems Funimation IS using the DBGT rap "What is GT?". Then came the Kamehameha contest which is one word was awesome! About forty people entred to see who could do the best Kamehamehas (including Hayley "Videl"). Ten finalists were selected and then Sean Schemmel selected the top three. Third was Hayley. The top two Matthew and Robb had to do a Kamehameha struggle to see who could overpower the other while Sean judged who was best and Robb won the fight thanks to his Kaioken times three million!
The audience helped to decide first place as being Mathew who in his victory spech said he was representing Pakuranga and other westies! Matthew won himslef a Gameboy Advance SP while Robb got himself a DBZ skateboard and drink bottle. The competition was awesome to watch and I'd like to give special thanks to the people that made it cool including the two guys that peformed the fusion dance, the little kid that wouldn't and anyone who powered up (especially Robb).
After the Kamehameha contest some people stuck around for a bit of Q & A with Sean Schemmel. I asked him what he thought of NZ and he said that it was beautiful and would move here if he could! I tried to help out with questions as well such as the guy who asked how old Goku was when he married Chi Chi. I got thatbone wrong though as I said 25 and he was only 19... You win some, you lose some. With my newest DBZ DVD, Cooler's Revenge in hand I left to return tommorow for the expo's final day. Oh and some news to you DBZ fans in Wellington Chris Sabat (voice of Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha and others) will be coming to your Armageddon in September!
P.S Sorry if I mispelt anyones name or put down the wrong name!
And now heres an guide for Monday!

DBZ at Armageddon, Day One
Well I went to the Armageddon today and what follows a brief account of what I did today...
Got up at 7.45am and caught the bus into the city at 8.50 the bus was due to arrive at 8.25 but that just wasn't the case. Finally I arrived in the city and headed straight for the Armageddon and got there at 9.30 to find a massive queue (at this point the Armageddon was yet to officially open). At 10am the queue finally began moving as the Armageddon opened but it was to be 11am before I finally got in.
The first thing I did was head up to level five and buy DBZ DVDs
5.15 Kid Buu Vegeta's Plea and 5.16 Kid Buu - The Price of Victory as well as DBZ Movie 4 - Lord Slug and The History of Trunks! I spent the next hour searching the Armageddon for other things to buy and found little that I didn't already have or simply didn't want. I had known for a while but ti was proven to me today - Yu-Gi-Oh (sadly) is more popular in NZ right now than DBZ...
By this time I was quite hungy and went out and got some Burger King. Me and a friend I was with then decided to go see a movie,
Johnny English. At 2pm the movie was over and so I went back to the Armageddon and immediately stood in line for autographs from DBZ voice actor, Sean Schemmel (Goku, King Kai, Nail). As well as getting my cards signed I gave him the address for this site and asked him if he could check it out. My handwriting is famously terrible though and he probably won't be able to decipher what I wrote! But if he does make it here I say Thanks Mr Schemmel for visiting my website!
Mission accomplised I decided to head home and sat down and watch the two new episodes DVDs I had purchased (including the conclusion of the fight between Majin Buu and Goku) and so I did. But as for the Armageddon I shall return tommorow!!
Check out below for whats happening on Sunday or
click here for whole page full of DBZ at the Expo info.

Over this weekend and concluding on Monday at the Aotea Centre in Auckland will be the Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo. I hope you all like crowds because they are expecting 20,000 people! If you are going to the Armageddon to buy things you should probably go as early as possible tommorow as things sell out pretty quick. Also if you are going all three days save yourself some money by getting a three day pass. Check out entry costs, a expo map and location of the expo as well as DBZ event there by clicking here! What is the Future of the DBZ Web Community?
Heres some new about Dragonball GT straight from FUnimation (courtesy of DBZGT Legacy)
"
All of the episodes of Dragon Ball GT will be available to our fans (uncut), in both dubbed and subbed versions.
The release on April 15th will begin right before the Baby Saga.
The original Japanese opening (the "Dan Dan" song), commercial bumpers, ending and next episode preview are included on every episode (subbed)
."
According also to
Saiyanz Rage the DBGT DVDs have already been released and are "amazing" and Dragonball Z has finished screening on American TV.
With the end of DBZ in America many DBZ websites are wondering what the future holds for them and I feel its necessary to tell you all that this site will remain open until the Dragonball series is completely finished in New Zealand  (unless of course something happens that means I can no longer continue the site). This could be another couple of years...

Invention of a New Phrase
With Ultimate Battle 22 being delayed yet again this time until April 22nd I have invted a new phrase to use if anty other DBZ games face delays. Heres the definition...
"Do an Ultimate Battle 22" - A Dragonball Z game that is repeatedly delayed.
I wonder if Ultimate Battle 22 will EVER see release in NZ.

The End of Tomako's Revenge
This week is the final week of Tomako's Revenge and to finish off there is the final three comics. unfortunately there is a cliffhanger ending due to the fact that CDC never finished the series. I'm sorry if that annoys you but don't blame me me, blame CDC and if you want him to finish the series then email him at [email protected] and tellhim to finish the Tomako series! But you can still look at the final three (the last two especially look very nice). Finally don't forget to return next week when there will be a comic by DBZ creator Akira Toriyama himself!

DBGT Contest Ends
Funimations DBGT contest has ended. The contest involved people singing karaoke to the "What is GT" theme (originally the opening theme for the show but it has been dumped, see the post below). Anyway the contest has ended and the winners are Charles and Chris from Indiannapolis, USA.
Heres what the people at FUNimation had to say...
"The first round of our "Be A Star" contest is over and we have selected a winner from the batch of entries that made it for the first deadline, which was March 10. This was no easy task and the entries were judged on the following merits: originality, best voice, personality and accuracy.
Congratulations go out to Christopher and Charles from Indianapolis! They are our first winners in the "Be a Star" contest. They sent in a very unique production that will be featured as a DVD extra on Dragon Ball GT Ramification. This DVD is scheduled to hit the streets in the middle of July.
Christopher directed and produced the entry and he recruited Charles to be the lead vocalist. Christopher says his motivation for entering the contest was "In hopes of being in some way a part of a show that I've spent countless hours watching." Congratulations again to Christopher and Charles as they are now part of the Dragon Ball legacy.
The "Be A Star" contest is definitely one of our most unique promotions. We received such a great response from our fans that we extended the deadline until May 16. Another winner will be chosen to become a part of Dragon Ball history. The next winner will be announced at the end of May."

If you want to see a clip of the video they sent in
click here. Its unknown if this "special feature" will be on NZ DBGT releases...
In other news it seems that the seventh Dragonball Z movie, "Super Android 13", has been delayed until May and will be released alongside the final DBZ release 5.17 Kid Buu - A New Beginning. It also seems that the Cell Games will also be released on DVD and video including the episode where Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2 for the first time! 3.21 Earths Last Hope and 3.22 Cell Games - Awakening will both be released in NZ in June...
Finally today the
Official Armageddon Website has announced that all guests including voice of Goku, Sean Schemmel are officially coming and have begun to arrive. I'll let you know as soon as Sean Schemmel arrives!

Funimation Says Goodbye to GT Rap
A while ago the whole Dragonball web community and fans in general were outraged as Funimation revealed that they were not going to use the Japanese theme for Dragonball GT but instead use a rapper singing "Take me on the Grand Tour! Grand Tour! Grand Tour!" well now it seems according to DragonballToys.com that Funi has decided not to use this theme and instead are using the untranslated Japanese theme "Dan Dan". Also it seems that Bruce Faulconer, who did all the music for Dragonball Z, is not doing the music from GT but instead the music is being done by Mark Menza who also does the music in the DBZ movies. In case you don't alrady know Funimation's GT will start at episode 17 in order to skip all the "boring bits" at the beginning of the series but they will be releasing theother episodes later on. The first US GT episode "A Grand Problem" starts with what has been called "an awesome recap of what happens before [episode 17]". Check this page for more info. The first episodes of Dragonball GT come out in the USA on April 15.
Meanwhile the title and USA release date for Dragonball Z movie 8, the first Brolli movie, have been announced. As I thought it would be the title will be "The Legendary Super Saiyan" and it will be released at the end of August in the USA.
And finally to visitors to the site from Australia may be interested in a CCG tournament happening in New South Wales. Find more info on that
here.

Hercule Defeats Majin Buu!
April Fools!! Did I get you? Of course he doesn't defeat Majin Buu!!!
The latest issue, seventh issue, of
Prime Anime Report is now online. This one focuses manly on the upcoming release of Dragonball GT in the USA including the fact they are going around radio stations in the US and giving away prizes and such. I doubt they will do that here in New Zealand but oh well..This newletter also has a character profile of Pan and a profile on Elise Baughman (who voices characters on DBGT - I'm not sure which ones yet). Click here to read the newsletter.
I found a website with images from the Dragon Box DVD boxset Volume 1 now avaliable in Japan. In case you don't know the Dragon Box DVD Boxset Volume 1 is a collection of 25 DVDs which contains all the Dragonball Z episodes up to episode 147 (Cell saga) plus a bonus DVD containing the two specials . Thats 55 hours of Dragonball Z!  It also comes with a cool book with tonnes of info (in Japanese) and an exclusive Goku action figure. The boxset has several downsides for those in New Zealand.
1. Its only avaliable in Japan
2. Its only in Japanese (no English subtitles)
3. Only works in region 2 DVD players (most in NZ are region 4)
4. The exceptional cost of 100,00 yen or NZ $1,500
The second boxset with the remaining episodes will be released on September 18. Check out images of this super cool set
here. And before any of you ask I will not be buying this one (I can't speak Japanese).
Don't forget to check out the new
Tomako's Revenge comics at the bottom of this page. Its the second to last week!
