| Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo, Auckland 2003 | |||||||||
This year is the third year Dragonball Z will feature at the Auckland expo. In the first year, February 2001, Sean Schemmel (voices of Goku, King Kai and Nail) and Chris Sabat (voices of Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, Kami and more..) appeared in Auckland and gave autographs. Later in that year Sean Schemmel returned for the Wellington Expo in October. In April 2002 Stephanie Nadolny (Voice of Kid Gohan) came to the Auckland expo while Wellington had Kyle Hebert (voice of Teen Gohan) for their expo in November 2002. Now in 2003 Sean Schemmel will return to Auckland for the Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo 2003 I attended bot Auckland expos and got a total of eight autographed cards and will also be going this year. Who knows you might see me there! (not that you know what I look like!) but heres what to look forward to in 2003. The info is divided by the following sub headings... 1. General Information UPDATED! - Date of expo, entry cost, where is it, what time does it open/close, a map of the expo 2. Learn to Play DBZ CCG -Info on the demonstrations on how to play the DBZ CCG 7. Photo with Goku NEW! - Get your picture taken with the voice of Goku! 8. Dragonball Z Merhandise Sales - Some of the many stalls offering DBZ merchandise for sale including release of brand new DBZ videos and DVDs! 9. Optional DBZ Events - Events in which you don't have to enter DBZ into but would be cool such as the Art Contest (draw DBZ!) and the Cosplay Contest (dress up as a DBZ character!). Entry details and rules for both events. 1. General Information Official Expo Website: www.pulpexpo.com Dates: Saturday April 12th to Monday April 14th The expo begins on the first Saturday of the school holidays April 12th and finishes on Monday April 14th Open/Closing times:The doors open at 10am and close at 6pm on all three days. Entry Cost: Adult one day $13 - three day pass $30 Child (12 and Under) - one day pass $8 - three day pass $20 Family pass (2 Adults & 2 Children) - one day only $35 Location: Aotea Centre, Aotea Square, Queen Street, Auckland Map: Click here for a map of the expo 2. Dragonball Z Guest Appearences Day: All Three Days Location: Level Five Signing Times: Sat 11am - 1pm 3pm - 5pm Sun/Mon 11am - 1pm 3pm - 4pm Sean Schemmel (the voice of Goku, King Kai, Nail as well as Gyushu and Medamatcha from DBZ Movie #4 Lord Slug) will be at the expo signing free autographs of Dragonball Z cards. He will be there all three days signing autographs at the above times Sean will also be judging two Kamehameha contests but I'll put the info about that in the next section. 3. Kamehameha Contests (Poster) This year there will be two Kamehameha contest both are judged by Sean Schemmel 4pm Sunday 13th April - Open to all ages 4pm Monday 14th April - 14 years and under Rules are simple, the Best Kamehameha of all participants wins. Winners are judged on Posture, voice, similarity to the cartoon Kamehameha style and general enthusiasm. The Kamehameha contest was introduced at the Wellington 2001 expo and came to Auckland in 2002 with Stephanie Nadolny (voice of Kid Gohan) as the judge There is no way I will enter but I will be watching...... Prizes Open to all ages (4pm Sunday 13th April) -The top 10 people in each contest will receive a Dragonball Z video -1st Prize is a Gameboy Advanced SP 14 years and under (4pm Monday 14th April) - The top 10 people in each contest will receive a DragonballZ video, - 2nd prize Zoid Berzerk Fury toy - 1st Prize is a Gameboy Advanced SP 4. Special Screenings At the expo you can expect screenings of... Dragonball Z Movie 7: Super Android 13 (Cover) Time and Day: 4.45pm Monday 14th April, Level Two Movie Summary: When Dr. Gero was killed by Android 17, he had three other androids stored in the floor below. His death brought to the life Androids 13, 14, and 15 (androids with the sole purpose to destroy Gokou), here is your chance to watch the seventh DBZ movie, featuring, Vegeta, Piccollo, teen Trunks, goku and the all new Androids 13, 14 and 15. Introduced by the Voice of Goku, Sean Schemmel. Dragonball Screening Room (Poster) Time and Day: All Three Days, Level One 10am-6pm Summary: Non stop Dragonball TV Series screening. Folllow the story of Goku as a ten year old boy as he enters the World Tournament and faces off against the Red Ribbon Army. Dragonball Z Screenings Time and Day: 10am-6pm, All Three Days, Level Three 5. Dragonball CCG North Island Regional Tournament Time and Day: All Three Days Location: Level Three Entry Cost: $15 (excludes entrance to the expo) Players should bring with them on the day a completed deck list. One ID Sword and Scouter. All games will be played according to the latest rulebook (world games) And CRD which can be downloaded from this address, The entry fee will $15 (Does not include entry to the expo) The tournaments will consist of 6 x 50 minutes Swiss rounds. After 6 round we will cut to top 16 � 1st plays 16, 2nd plays 15, and so on, in single game elimination finals. The final to decide first place should be best of three games. All participants in the tournament will receive a promo pack of DBZ cards. The top sixteen winners will keep winning cards as they progress. The Auckland Regional winner will receive the major prize of $500 to contribute for the person to go play in the Australian finals. The winner of the Australian finals will receive a trip to Gencon in Indiana, USA to play in the World Championships in July. There will be a South Island Regional tournament to be held in Christchurch, which will also receive the same prize as the Auckland Tournament For any questions regarding the tournament email here 6. Learn to Play DBZ CCG Learn how to play the DBZ CCG and Yu-Gi-Oh! at Wizard Distributor stand on Level 5 Learn to play from 10am-3pm All three days 7. A Photo with Goku Time and Day: Saturday and Sunday at 1.15pm Sean Schemmel will all be attending a photo session during the expo at the time above, tickets for these photo sessions will be on sale all day and are limited to 100 tickets for photos per actor per day. The photo will cost $35.00 and will be ready for collection at 5pm the day of the photo. Each photo purchased will be autographed by the actor in it (in this case Sean Schemmel). 8. Other Optional DBZ Events Events which aren't necessarily to do with DBZ such as the Art Contest (you could draw DBZ if you wanted) or the Cosplay Contest (dress up as a DBZ character!) Art Contest here are three age categorys, 10 and under, 11 - 18 yrs, 19 and older. All artwork will be displayed at the expo, and will be on show after judging, all day monday - Prizes are as follows... 10 and under - Winner will recieve a Transformers Armada Opimus Prime Valued at $169 11-18 yrs - Winner will recieve $100 prize money and a prize bag containing an Xbox and PS2 game and more 19 and Older - Winner will recieve $100 prize money and a prize bag containing an Xbox and PS2 game and more Top three entrys in each age group will recieve a HOW TO DRAW MANGA book valued at $50 Armageddon Art Competition Rules 1. Individual work only. 2. Work may be submitted on either Saturday or Sunday but must be at the Armageddon stand on Level three by 3.00pm Sunday the 13th of April - no late entries will be accepted. 3. No written or verbal comments Re: Competition Art Entries, by their artist should be made to the judges prior to 4pm Sunday 13th of April. 4. Original Art work only- any subject or topic. 5. Painted, drawn or computer generated work accepted. 6. Work should be clearly named, addressed, Phone number and aged on the lower left-hand corner. 7. Contestants must personally attend to verify their age (if applying for the under13 category). 8. Contestants are allowed multiple entries so long as the above rules are meet. 9. Contestants need not be present for the Announcement of the winner's, as the winners will be notified either at the event or by phone on or about the 21st April. 10. If Contestants want their art work returned after the competition they must include a pre-paid self addressed envelop or return after 4:30pm Sunday to collect their art work. 11. Work must indicate 'please return' for it to be returned. 12. At the judge's descretion, the prizes may be changed to those stated. Cosplay Contest Register NOW - To register for the contest, email the following to the Armageddon people here - Name, Address, Phone no., character you will appear as, description of character, picture or character. You can register at the expo (no later than noon on Sunday 13th) at the Armageddon stand on level 3 (will be marked on the floor plan handed out upon entry) but they recommend doing it before to avoid any problems. The Armageddon 2003 Auckland Cosplay Competition will be held on Sunday the 13th of April. Contestants are welcome to come to the event on all days dressed in character. During the judging for the contest, you will be asked to show case yourself in costume on the main stage during the Cosplay contest. Participants will be asked, when on stage, to name and describe the character that they are dressed as briefly. They encourage short role-plays but they are not required. There are 3 main prizes: 1st - NZ$250 2nd - NZ$100 3rd - NZ$50 The top 10 entries will receive a DVD copy of the all new anime DVD series Hellsing. To be eligible for any prizes, you must pre-register, no later than noon Sunday 13th April, either online or at the Armageddon stand on Level 3. Those who do not pre-register, will be allowed to display their costumes after the pre-registered contestants. More info here soon!
