| December 2006 Check the Chamonix Meteo site for updates to our local weather. You can view the current conditions in Chamonix on the webcam of the Chamonet website! . Well it was a good racing summer - 2 1/2 marathons, an ultra marathon trail race and a marathon (Turin) for both of us + the 'forced march' of a 30K timed 'walk' (read 'race') with 10 kilo backpack as an entrance test for the French accompagnateur's program for both of us. We are probably both most proud of the Ultra Trail CCC race, being the longest thing either one of us as ever done. We are hoping to be able to enter it again this year an and see if we can do better. They have changed the race and are cutting out about every other aid station, so it will mean carrying more of your own food, which could mean slower times. Guess we'll find out! . The other great thing Gen did this year was travel for the 2nd time to Milan and then Cividale Italy with my Dad and stepmom - this time my Aunt also came along - to visit family on my paternal grandmother's side. It was right after this week and a half of 'preparation' by drinking plum eau de vie and eating too much good Italian food, as well as coming down with the flu that I ran in the Turin marathon on the way home :-) . Rob spent several weeks in Canada in the Spring, visiting many friends he had not been able to see when he was on dialysis or with kidney failure in past years. Myka and Dennis then came out from Canmore to visit us in the summer, going on several hikes around here, as well as venturing off to Italy and Provence during their European adventure. Myka even dared to pet Kobi and Kayla by the end of her visit. . Now it should be winter and we should have been skiing for a month already, but it has only snowed 1 major snowfall here in Chamonix and I've only skied a few times due to lack of inspiration (not many trails open). Rob's been working hard for Evolution 2 again teaching skiing and has had his dance card full most weeks. . We had 6 people over for Christmas dinner, including Larry, Rob's best friend from Canada who is staying in France for the season as a ski patroller on exchange with the St Gervais resort, about 20 minutes down the valley from us. We are looking forward to seeing him a lot this season, and this is the first time Rob and Larry have been able to ski togethers since Robert first got ill with his kidney problems 6 years ago. . Gen will have to travel for work at twice in January, possibly to Toronto or Chicago and definitely to Atlanta. Surely it will snow then ;-) |
