April 2005 Check the Chamonix Meteo site for updates to our local weather. You can view the current conditions in Chamonix on the webcam of the Chamonet website! . April 15 - Weather has been great after a big dump of spring snow. Previous to that, it was looking like an early end of the season when we were skiing in t-shirts in early March. No more - snow has come back with a vengence leaving about a foot on the ground at our house, more on the mountain. Gen's busy (way too busy) with computer work, and looking to find some way out of that job to enjoy more of the mountains. Also working busily on updating the Flickr web site with new photos whenever she gets a chance . . . . Home dialysis has been going well and makes it nicer for everyone. The first day saw 3 doctors (one from China to observe how it works so she could set up a home dialysis program there). We've turned bedroom 4 into the home office/dialysis center. . Rob has just finished his full time work as a ski instructor with the British ski school Interski. He was based in Courmayeur. Sadly, at the end of the season it was announced the Italians are breaking EU laws and will be banning an foreign ski instructors from working in Courmayeur more than 1 week per season - Interski is trying to fight this but it doesn't look promising. They may move their operation elsewhere (such as to Verbier) and let the Italians see what happens when 15,000 tourists a year go missing from their valley. . Rob is now in Zermatt for 3 weeks until May 6 taking 2 BASI (British Alliance of Ski Instructors) courses for technical and teaching - these are the last 2 courses he needs to take and pass in order to get his level II (which would allow him to work in France next year as a 'stagiere'). . We are looking forward to the summer, and Larry has promised to visit from Canada for several weeks. Time to get out the climbing gear again when Rob returns from his Swiss adventures. |
