The Setting

There exists a ritual in Freemasonry, only symbolic at this point, of laying the first corner stone of a building in
the northeast corner – "halfway between the dark of the
north and the light of the east.” (Claudy, 1949)

The small town of Twin Peaks is set in the north western state of Washington. Since the north is a place of
darkness,
then built into the setting is the foreshadowing of dark things to come.
