Heart

For Masons, the heart is the centre of the intellect and intuition – it is central to life –
“what the arms do, where the legs take us, how all the parts of the body move,
all of this the heart ordains.” ("The Symbolism..., Internet)

In Twin Peaks, both Laura Paulmer and James Hurley, her secret boyfriend, hold half of a heart necklace. (Lynch, 1990)
After Laura’s death, the initial focus of the police investigation was spent finding who
held the other half – but James had gone into the woods to bury it – to hide away his
knowledge of Laura’s life, and possibly her death. (Episode One)

________

Windom Earle and Agent Cooper were former partners in the F.B.I.;
but they had a falling out, and a rivalry insued. While at the Black Lodge, Windom Earle stabbed
Agent Cooper in the heart (Lynch, 2002) – although off the top this just seems like a murder, there is
significance within the Mason tradition. Like the double edge of a
sword, your Brother can help or hurt you. ("Masonic...," Internet)

As well, because the viewer holds Agent Cooper as the ‘good guy’ –
and his slaying took place in The Black Lodge, a place where Cooper does not belong –
then his murder can be seen as his eviction from the place of
darkness.
