Lodge Authority

In Freemasonry, to start a private Lodge, there needs to be at least three officers -

a Master,

a Senior Warden

and a Junior Warden.

Each of these titles carries its own specific responsibilities –
usually pertaining to the tasks carried out at meetings and ceremonies. (Claufy, 1949)

__________

In Twin Peaks, this is paralleled with Agent Cooper as the Master.
He is the major decision maker, as well as the individual with the most insight.

Like
David Lynch he was an Eagle Scout. As well, he acheived a perfect score on the marksmanship test - which he
considers to have given him a greater understanding of man and his environment. He often senses answers without any
clear route as to how he apprehended them. ("Twin Peaks Star Pics," Internet)

__________

Diane as the Senior Warden.
Diane is Cooper's confidant. Although all we see is a microcassette recorder,

he entrusts her with his most formal as well as most intimate thoughts.

She acts as a soundingboard. Their relationship, as far as the viewer
can tell, is purely one-sided - but it helps Agent Cooper clarify his experiences. (Lynch, 1990)

_________

Sheriff Truman as the Junior Warden.

Although he offers much to the team as far as local knowledge goes, he is often looking to

Cooper for advice and guidance - on issues of policing as well as more delicate interests.
(As a side note, the real Harry S. Truman was a Freemason. (Stevenson, 1988))
