Blue

“All Masonic Lodges of the Ancient Craft Masonry are Blue Lodges.”
Blue represents the vault and the covering of Heaven. The sky envelops the world
much in the same way that the Lodge envelops the Mason world – a world within a
world. It is also the colour of the highest craft level – reflected on ceremonial aprons and collars. Craft
levels in Masonry correspond to a member’s time, involvement and knowledge regarding the
Lodge. (Claudy, 1949)

________

In Twin Peaks, when Agent Cooper and Sheriff Truman are in the
morgue analyzing Laura’s corpse – there is a blue light that floods the hallway. (Episode One)

A patient, once inside a hospital is thought to be protected by all
that that hospital has to offer – in the same was that the Lodge
protects those in its brotherhood.

________

Also, part of the later storyline is the mysterious Project Bluebook – a project taken on by
Windom Earle and Major Briggs. The duality here is between the good that Briggs represents and the
evil and which Windom embodies. (Episode Thirteen)

The eventual champion of the two will reach the ‘next level’
although it is never made clear to the viewer exactly what that entails.

________

Another duality isThe Blue Pine Lodge. Although it is not a central focus of the storyline,
it is a summer home owned by Pete and Catherine Martell.

When Agent Cooper comes to town to try and solve Laura’s murder – Pete is willing to help the
investigation however he can – helping the ‘good’ side. Catherine, on the other hand, is implicated
in the prostitution ring of which Laura was a part. So Pete and Catherine convene at the Blue pine Lodge – representing light and dark coming together under the covering of blue. In the same way that the earth is
made up of light and dark, but exist side by side under the same sky.
