HISTORICAL

Normally the most loss of life has occurred when there has been catastrophic convulsion in the underlying soil layer, or due to catastrophic effects of damage due to out break of fires from gas leaks, etc.

There has been damage to special structures like raised speedways which have been surprising. It does seem that simple and stand alone structures which are rather easy to design find themselves exposed to conditions of vulnerability which could have been avoided if simpler and more robust structural arrangements were adopted at the expense of extreme aesthetics of the artistic kind.
