DESIGN

Problems in detailing of joints and provision of reinforcement in RCC structures - is probably most trying during detailed Design of structures.

Indeterminate behavior in joints and bases of columns can cause ill designed and detailed locations.

Some super-redundant design and structural arrangements can be done, which at a very low cost can provide a rather quantitative increase in the stability of the structure. An introduction of a certain helpful additional member(s).

Stress reversal is a fact that may be easily overlooked in detailing of members.

Most of all it is the involvement of a good consultant to overlook the designs that can be most invaluable both in terms of safety and economy. If extra steel were provided, to the tune of a consultants fee or more, the resulting building may actually be more unsafe. Time saving and avoiding dealing with professionals seems to simplify things in poor countries, but then it has its implications and effects.
