Houston's Weather |
![]() |
Houston's weather can be described as extreme. The temperature can change radically for one day to the next day. Air conditioning will be utilized one day and heating the next day. January is usually the coldest month and August is usually the hottest.
In the winter, the cold air comes down from Canada and the temperature will drop quickly as the north winds pass through the city. In January, I have seen the temperature reach a low of 8 degrees with freezing rain and ice. Houstonians do not know how to drive under these conditions. Beware and stay off the roadways.
In the summertime, the temperatures are in the 90 plus degree range and the relative humidity is often 90 to 100%. Air conditioning is used in almost every building and car. It is not a luxury but a necessity for survival. In August, the hurricanes and flooding thunderstorms are the daily topic of conversations in the workplace and at home. Houston meteorologists are always busy people.
