| Greatness is a noun defined as "the property possessed by something or someone of outstanding importance or eminence" (www.dictionary.com). It can also be termed as a "concept that is heavily dependent on a person's perspective and biases" and used when judging a person's or object's superiority (www.wikipedia.com). When determining if another person has achieved greatness then it is at the discretion and opinion of the observer who will formulate their own perspective. However, when it comes to achieving individual greatness at one's own standards, there are many options to refer to in order to gain such personal status. By analyzing movies, video games, sports, and college, we were able to compile multiple sources and interviews that demonstrate the affect each of these aspects have in helping one achieve a sense of well-rounded greatness in their life. We have taken everyday activities, hobbies, and education and analyzed them to determine the extent to which they help an individual attain greatness. Movies, as morbid as some may seem, hold inspirational meanings and lessons which can be very beneficial to the viewer. Many modern video games are used as teaching devices for children, especially those with special needs, and help them achieve a sense of importance. Sports are a prime example of achieving greatness. The time and effort that goes into practices and games can only help one become better at what they are trying to do. If they perform to high standards in comparison to their average level of play, then they have attained individual greatness. Education, especially during the college years, is a prime example of a tool that if utilized correctly can help one attain success. If one takes advantage of the right opportunities in their school, grasps as much of they can from the college experience to make it enjoyable, all combined with working hard, then educational experiences can help one achieve greatness at a level that will help them in the future. Everyone has come into contact with these different activities at one point during their lifetime. If one takes advantage of what they each have to offer and work hard with each, then in the end one can achieve a personal, well-rounded feeling of greatness. |
