ACHIEVING GREATNESS
"WHAT IT TAKES TO BE GREAT"
"HOW NOT TO TALK TO YOUR KIDS"
How many times have you heard, "Practice makes perfect?" Probably thousands of times since you were a child. This is because when we are little we are told that in order to succeed in life you must practice, practice, practice. The article explains that the way to achieve greatness is "deliberare practice." I agree with this statement completely. The author gives an example that when an amatuer singer is taking a singing lesson. They regard it as fun and a way to release some tension. A professional singer on the other hand comes in with the mindset to improve and takes the lesson in a more seirous manner. The difference is the professional singer came in with a "deliberate" attitude to excel and improve themself.
I do feel that even with practice, some people just have an ability for a certain task. If you have two people compete against one another who both practiced the same way, one of them is going to come out on top. That may just be because they had something extra in them. I do like that at the end of the article, it tells the reader that greatness is available to everyone if you only practice. It leaves the reader feeling like they as do something great as long as they work hard for it.
