WHAT IT TAKES TO BE GREAT

This interesting article from Fortune Magazine focuses on what it truly takes to be great. Does practice make perfect? What type of practice does it take to be perfect? In this article, greatness is attributed to "deliberate practice." Deliberate practice is much more specific than practice. To take an example from the article, practice would be driving fifty golf balls as far as possible. Deliberate practice would be to consistently try and land the ball within a certain distance of the green. However, can greatness only be achieved through deliberate practice? Does natural skill and ability play into the final results? To see my opinion on the article, click on the link below.

HOW NOT TO TALK TO YOUR KIDS

This frightening article from New York Magazine argues that praise may not be beneficial to a child. Actually, it could be harmful. Studies are showing that continous praise for a child can cause him or her to give up on things they are not as good with. Instead of constantly praising children by saying, "You're so smart," parents should be concentrating their praise on more specific things such as effort. Or maybe it has nothing to do with praise at all...maybe it all depends on the child. To see my opinion on the article, click on the link below.
