Es ist sehr wunderbar!

The Southwester is the student-run newspaper of Southwestern Oregon Community College. I've contributed articles and cartoons since the end of 2004, and since the beginning of the 2005 school year I have been a part of the staff, with my own regular column and comic series (see "Happiness in Slavery" in the Cartoons section). Contained herein is the material from September 2005 on.
October 2005 - Calvin & Hobbes Turn 20

October 2006 Music Review - Weird Al is in the Hizzouse Once Again

March 2007 Theatre Review - "Nickel and Dimed": Looking for Meaning in the Menial

Clinically Cynical

Fall Term 2005

September - How I Spent Bush's Summer Vacation - Not technically published under the Clinically Cynical banner, but only because it was the first issue we put out and didn't have everything running smoothly yet.

October - A Bittersweet Crow Diet

November - Geneva Absolute - Anyone who's beaten Final Fantasy VII knows where the title came from.

December - If Cowards Cut and Run, Then Chicken Hawks Never Show Up - God, how I hate that title. I wish I had thought of something better; but, them's the breaks.

Winter Term 2006

January - Looking Backward, Forward, and Bewildered

February - Amphetamine of the Masses

March - Third Time's The Harm: A Look Back at Iraq

Spring Term 2006

April - "All-Knowing Being Changes His Mind. Film at Eleven."

May - Holy Matrimony, Batman!

June - Vietnow? The only one without an accompanying cartoon. My well of inspiration had run dry, and I was busy trying to get packed up to go home early.

Summer Issue: August - Israel is Real, But Has Hezbollah Bollocks? Written from a distance with no scanner at my disposal, this also doesn't have a cartoon.

Fall 2006

October - God Forbid

October (2nd issue) - Vote and/or Die Live in Regret - Someone was negligent when copyediting this article, and the fuck-word actually went into the paper without being asterisked out!

November - Dem's the Breaks

December - Kramerica's Macacatastrophe? - You might want to click the accompanying cartoon to get a better look at it; it's a tad pixelated.

Winter 2007

January - When Justice Just Isn't

February - "You Mean There Are Intelligent Black People?"

March - An End to Persian Aspersion - I should note this was written before the British/Iranian hostage crisis.

Spring 2007

April - The Global Warming Debate is So Much Hot Air

Miscellaneous Coverage

Across the Universe, Across Campus - An Astronomy lecture write-up with a bitchin' cartoon accompaniment.

Unused Pieces

Star Wars: Episode III Review - I wrote this back in May 2005, but it ended up not being used, for reasons I'm still not sure of. There are some spoilers, for the minority who haven't seen it yet.

They Don't Need No Education, They Could Use Some Self-Control" - A rant about Math and Skills Day, or whatever it was called, on campus. Not used in the first Spring 2005 issue for liability reasons that will become obvious when you read it.
