What's New with the Site?
Hey everyone! As we swing into fall, I'm trying to keep up with everything. As many of you know, there's a lot going on in my life outside of here that is taking a bit of my attention. It looks like it's only going to get busier, too, so here's advance warning - I WILL do what I can to keep everyone updated on things, and keep up on the site, but it may not *always* be up t date. In other words.. all should continue as it has for a little bit. ;) But it will eventually cool down.. Thanks to everyone for your patience and for sticking by me through this. It's appreciated!
For those curious, we know nothing yet on Rose's tests (she had an EEG and some bloodwork done to test for Alzheimer's). Trust me on this, as of right now, there is NO reason to be worried about anything. Her health seems to be fine, and according the phone call from her family doctor, her "Hemoglobin A1C" bloodwork (how they determine overall long term health with Diabetes and other issues) says that her diet is working wonderfully, and to keep on the same way we've been. If the situation changes I'll be sure to let you all know. I'm sure we'll find something out on October 9, our next appointment to the neurologist. You'll know when we know! :)
Perhaps you'll notice a new Quick Link box on here for the photo albums. These links will take you right to the photos in the albums so you can start browsing, but not to the overall albums themselves. But it's easy to get to the albums - If you want to see the whole album at one glance, then when you're looking at the pictures, just look in the upper left corner of your browser, and there should be a link to VIEW ALBUM. Just click there and viola! Enjoy!
Also, if anyone has any ideas on how I could rearrange the page to make it easier for your navigation, PLEASE let me know. I'd be more than happy to make it easier to read and navigate. I don't want anyone to have any issues with the site, but the last time I tried to upgrade the page, it didn't work well and confused a whole lot of people so, I think I should take advice from you guys who actually SURF it! If you've any suggestions, please, don't hesitate to let me know, yeah?
For us grandkids who remember it (and the parents, if they wanna see), say goodbye to an old friend in Salem. Click here to see the pic of what's left at this point. I wanted to snap it for posterity's sake, before it was totally gone.
SURGERY INFORMATION
In reference to my surgery this Friday, I've just sent an email around, so if you're on the mailing list, please make sure to check your email. On this email are the phone numbers for Jake, Mary and Amber, so that the family can have access to surgery news. I will be posting the info on this site (I hope to on Saturday, the 6th), but these numbers are in case you want to know sooner, just so the family has numbers so they can contact other family members, or get the info when they need it. Thanks again for your patience and support, everyone!
CRESCENT PHOTOS ARE UP!!!
FINALLY, they are up! You can go to them directly by CLICKING HERE, or you can just use the drop down menu to go to the photo gallery area in general. I sincerely hope you all enjoy. For so long now, I've felt bad about having memories of, well, for example, Angie's father - when she didn't even get to meet him. I always said that if there was some way that I could share the memories, I would do so. I never really realized how many of us don't have these memories - until I spoke with one younger cousin at Wal-Mart - she wasn't even aware of Crescent! And I think of how happy that place makes me to think back on those memories - denied to the younger cousins. That's almost wrong. So why are we not sharing these memories too? So now you guys can go and maybe, from what I've got there, put some things together about the grandparents. If any of the older ones (I suppose John or Bobby, eh?) have any thoughts, please feel free to share them for the younger ones! I can pass them on or you can post them on the board - it's what it's there for. Yeah, they're just stories, but .. that's what it's all about. Whether it's mom's stories of Grandpa's cousin, or my stories of Grandma taking me to the bridge.. stories make the past. I hope the younger ones can appreciate this somewhat, if not as much as us older ones. I wish we could make it more for you but I guess it's just.. what it is.. and that'll have to do. I'm sorry it can't be more. Go check it out, yeah?
FAMILY DISCOUNT
Don't forget that Eddie can get discounts for any family member who plans to stay at a Marriott hotel (or one of it's subsidiaries). Please let him know in advance if you want a discount, as soon as possible. You can email him HERE.
CAN YOU HELP?
Jenny has sent some new info - she is working up a family tree for the Wakefields in Missouri, and would like any info that people may have. So if you have any info (maybe Loretta might have told you something that could be helpful here?), please let her know. You can find the start of her tree here, or you can read her post on our Posting Board. You'll find her email address there too, in case you have any information. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
SOMETHING FUN TO DO
Since we're kinda slow on family news, I'll share something a friend showed me. She had heard that it could be fun (and sometimes scary) to look your own name up on Google, and since she is an older friend and not entirely net-savvy, she wanted me to help her with it. So we looked hers up and had some fun with it (she was surprised to see her church involvement documented online). While I'm not a Google person (I like Yahoo's organization MUCH better), I still got incredibly bored -remember I've had some down time!- and thought, eh, why not? While I didn't find much on ME (guarding the privacy pays off!), I did find some interesting stuff on my name. I thought I'd share the most interesting one - a ship that shares my name! You can click on the pics and see it larger, and sometimes then click AGAIN to see it even bigger. You'll note that even though they spelled it as I do on the website, the ship itself's name is spelled a little different than mine. But what a trip that is to me! She's a pretty one too! Eddie wrote me his results - while the first name was a different spelling, Edmund T. Coleman is known for climbing Mount Baker (near Puget Sound in Washington) in 1868, topping it on his third attempt (thanks Ed for sharing that info!). Why not "Google" yourself today? If you get anything cool or interesting, feel free to share with the family, and we'll get it up on the site! :)
