| No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich. (Louis Sabin) |
1950s - 1960s - LASSIE Our first collie. Not a beauty queen by today's standards but nevertheless a beauty to us. Lassie was a reserved girl, gentle, unassuming and loyal. She was our initial introduction to the many fine qualities of the collie. Lassie was purchased by my mother who first admired the collie breed. Lassie lived until the age of 10 years. |
1960s - 1970s - PRUE Our second collie. Prue had beautiful colouring. She was rescued by my father who found her abandoned and in rather poor condition. She happily fitted into our family and bonded well with Lassie. A different personality to Lassie, Prue was more outgoing and let everyone know she was around. Once again we were fascinated by the qualities of the collie breed. Prue was a marvel in that she lived to the age of 17 years. I have never had a collie since with such a long lifespan. I don't have many pictures of Lassie and Prue, and none in colour. It was so long ago and I treasure the few that I have. Both the shot above and the shot used in the background were taken just after my father had built them a new kennel. |
