| I have owned Collie Roughs for the better part of my life. I have an overwhelming love of their beautiful nature, loyalty and most of all the wonderful companionship so indicative of this magnificent breed. Whilst I am certainly no expert I have a reasonably good knowledge of their overall characteristics and traits. They are highly intelligent, protective of the family unit, willing to please and are never happier than when they are included in the everyday functions of your life. They regard themselves very much as one of the family and can become quite mournful if they think they are being overlooked. Collies are playful and extremely agile - they have a herding background and their movement is superb. To watch a collie in an open environment giving full vent to his/her speed is a captivating sight indeed. However, it must be remembered that the beautiful coat the collie rough is famous for does require maintenance. If this is attended to on a regular basis coat problems are kept to a minimum. We were avid water skiers for approx. 25 years and my collies accompanied us to the Hawkesbury River (NSW, Australia) every weekend. Needless to say by the end of the weekend their coats were a bit of a mess, what with continually being in and out of the river, so extra maintenance under these circumstances was essential. I have compiled this tribute to my collies as a reminder of just how much a part of my life they have shared and continue to do so. To farewell a treasured friend is never easy and at the time you truly wonder if you would want to face such sadness again, but the unconditional love and friendship you receive far outweighs the final farewell. Each of my collies has a special place in my heart and I have so many memories. You are most welcome to take the journey with me as I fondly recall those precious memories and look to the future with my present collies. Let us commence the journey where it all started so many years ago with Lassie and Prue. |
