Tips for studying and doing homework:

Find a quiet area to study.  Make sure it is your own space where you keep all of your work.

Remember that everyone works at a different pace.  Just because your friends say an assignment took them ten minutes to complete doesn't mean you'll finish it in the same time frame.

Work on your toughest assignments first, while your mind is still fresh.  For example, if you find calculations hard, do your math or science first.

Use flashcards- Flashcards are useful when studying a lot of vocab or spelling words.  The word goes on the front of the card.  The definition or answer goes on the back.  They can help you to remember more easily.

Write it down- Some people find it helpful to write the information down several times.  It helps to remember key concepts.  I always found it helpful to get a sheet of paper and fold it in half vertically.  On one side of the paper write a question.  On the other side of the paper write the answer.  Then quiz yourself.  This can especially be helpful when studying for Social Studies tests.

Study Breaks- Try not to study for long periods of time.  You will become tired and bored easily and may not remember the information.  Study for 10-15 minutes and then take a 5 minute break.  This may help you to remember more information.

Don't spend too much time on something you just can't understand.  If something doesn't make sense to you after re-reading it a few times, come back to it later.  If you're still confused, ask for help as soon as possible.

Do your homework in small blocks of time.  If you have a major assignment due, work on it a little bit every day, rather than procrastinating and doing it all one night.
