CVGS OFFICIAL DIARY 2001

Friday 22nd June

A 6 oclock start saw us complete an uneventful 250-mile journey from London to Holyhead.  Refreshed our limited knowledge of 25 with a few games of cards on the boat whilst sitting in front of the stage speakers.  Ringing still occurs in the vicinity of Chris.  Dermot took us to his new local, The Scholars, for a few quiet pints.  Got to bed at 2.30.  Dermot cooked for everybody as usual and did us proud with a fantastic breakfast spread.

Saturday

Left Dublin at a furious pace only slowing down in Athlone.  Macs cousin said that if we didnt pay the 50 fine he would come to Wembley for it.  Have a good holiday was his parting remark.

Met everybody at the Golf Club and the society teed off for 2001 - Relief (was not granted anywhere)!  New members, Vincent Brennan & Paul Hogan, were introduced and quickly took on the mantle of bandidoes (they obviously hadnt read the rule book).  Other members struggled to get to grips with golf as is the norm.

The Weekenders were as keen as ever to sample the Ballinrobe night life and an evening of drunken debauchery was had before we went to Gannon's for a night cap.  Some people are rumoured to have visited the Valk on the way but no lasting damage was inflicted upon the town dwellers.

Cards played until Beardy disrupted what had been a perfect day!

Sunday

After the minimum amount of sleep the first breakfasts were cooked and eaten before departing to Tuam (our first official day of drunken golf now the handicaps really start to take their toll).  Trooper, sponsored by Corrigan Construction Inc, stormed home in spectacular style to give notice of his intent Weekenders Rule OK

A rally then ensued as the race to get to Flannerys on time to get sufficiently wrecked to play golf to our own unique standards.  Left on Monday morning to prepare for more cards which saw Paul Wham-Croc-Shark Hogan make off with the winnings in a wheelbarrow which was only slightly smaller than El Presidentes.

Monday

Saw us trek to Galway Bay in glorious sunshine to settle the outcome of the weekend competition.  The four Moran brothers played together for only the fourth time in history and despite Chriss best efforts Troopers lead proved uncatchable and he maintained his lead to secure the weekend trophy which has nothing whatsoever to do with Corrigan Construction Inc.  Back to Gannon's for an evening of gastronomic delights from the extensive menu, Chris tried to make an insurance claim but Dermot saw what was going on and told Mac.

Due to the days exertions some members retired early (a bit like their golf really).

Tuesday

Back on home soil for the first time since Saturday and the scores are starting to take on some respectability.  The daily totals are starting to add up and Pat is sneaking a small lead at this early point.  However, Daves 39 points sends a shockwave through the society.  Went to Yangs for a Chinese banquet and paid the service charge twice.  On to the Corner Bar for our annual pool competition which saw Mac run out an easy winner under pressure.  The 2nd game was abandoned due to slow play by the girls!

Chris tries to make another claim on the video camera but relented when the restaurant phoned to say they had never seen anything so boring!

Wednesday

Rumours are rife amid corruption allegations and intimidatory tactics.  This is one that wont go away as Chriss potential committee status looks to be on its last legs.  The long suffering committee refused to confirm or deny and stated that they had always conducted themselves to the bounds of the CVGS morality code (see rule 69, clause 2, paragraph 3.9.  Back to golf and Pat blows the field away (no sexual reference meant) to increase his overall lead.  Strangely the two Mikes fail to build on their best scores of yesterday but still manage to improve their overall totals.  John & Linda make their first society appearance since the birth of the future of our society, Sean Walsh.  Lots of reminiscing goes on as Linda is told exactly what John was like in his single days (what was discussed will forever remain with the founders right to freedom of free speech).

Paddy kicked Chris Hogan last night in the most blatant physical attack ever seen on a CVGS member such that Chris is unable to play.

Thursday

Sees us all head off to Claremorris to champion Johns effort to become Captain.  Played in the worst weather in CVGS history Tom did warn us!  Dave wins again with a massive 39 points claiming he didnt know where he was going.  Ally paid a visit and offered to sponsor the entire tour next year.  This glamourous inclusion disrupted the nightly routine designed to pay Dermots golf fees as she was to blame for our first cardless evening.

Chris leaves his car open this time but still the video camera wont go away!

Friday

The tension on the final morning reaches a peak as we all take a battering in weather conditions worse than Claremorris.  Seans overnight lead is decimated as he fails to improve on his weekly total.  Both Mike Moore and Mike Seal make big gains to secure their places in the top 3.  The London Chapter finish the night celebrating their 1,2 & 3 success with Mike Moore in 3rd, Sean Moran in 2nd and Mike Seal as 2001 Champion.  His magnificent last day round of 36 in atrocious conditions justifies the mortgage he paid for his Taylor Mades.  Mike Moore, Captain of the victorious team, was said to be delighted with Londons 1st success and was quoted as saying ever since I finished 2nd in the inaugural year we have flattered to deceive.  I am proud of all the lads but for Tony Morton who needs some extra training.  We will be back with a full strength side to maintain our position at the top!  Im off to celebrate now see you in Spain!
