Tied Palmer

When a hackle is tied the length of the body, it is referred to as being a Tied Palmer.

Take a hackle of the required length. And hold by the tip. Draw hackle between the thumb and fore finger of the other hand so that the fibres stand out at right angles to the stem or point slightly backwards, Fig 1.

Tie in the tail, rib and body. Wind silk back to the eye of the hook.

Wind in the body.

Tie in the hackle by the stem as Fig 2, then wind spirally to the tail and allow pliers to hang down, Fig 3.

Wind the rib to the eye of the hook, working it in and out of fibres so as not to disturb them, and bind down each turn of the hackle, and finish off the head.

Another hackle may be tied in at the shoulder if required, Fig 4.
