Mannaz symbolizes the divine aspect existing
in every human being. Inherent in this is
the idea that humankind is the product of
divine energy, with the power of intelligence,
reason, memory, and tradition. Mannaz represents
humankind and all the qualities that make us
human, from our earliest ancestors to our
progenitors.

Heimdall-God of dawn and light, the son of Odin
and nine giant sisters, he was the divine sentry
of the rainbow bridge. Heimdall was born on the
horizon, and then nurtured by the strength of the
Earth, the warmth of the sun, and the moisture of the
sea. As Rig, he visited Earth and entered three homes,
and after each visit a son was born. Their names were
Thrall, Carl, and Earl and they represented the three
classes of people: slaves, free-persons, and nobles.
Odin-He and his two brothers, Vili and Ve (Hoenir and
Lodur), gave life to the first humans. Foremost father
of the Aesir, Odin was the ruler of the Aesir and Midgard.
He was the son of the god Bor and the giantress Bestla, and
grandson of Buri, the first god; Buri was released from the
primeval ice when Audhumla (the cow) licked the ice. Odin gave
the breath of life called "Ond," which is the divine spark
in humankind and the all-pervasive energy that penetrates and
animates everything. Known by over two hundred names, Odin
was the wisest and most famous of all gods.

Cosmologically, Mannz represents the evolving
human intelligence. It is this symbol of the
god Heimdall, the genetic link between the gods
and goddesses and humankind and guardian of Bifrost,
the rainbow bridge. In the poem "Rigsthula," in
the Elder Edda, Rig (Heimdall) brought forth the
three levels of social structure: the provider,
the warrior, and the priest-king.
Mannaz is the name of a tribal god who was the
ancestor of all Germanic people, closely akin to
the Celtic God Manannan. Mannaz in turn had three
sons-Ingvio, Irmio, and Istio-who gave their names
to the three main branches of the West Germanic
tribes. In mythological terms, this was analogous
to the creation of the three levels of social structure.

In its perfect state, Mannaz symbolizes the
complete human being, one who integrates the wisdom
of the runes with the self. Considered a double Wunjo,
the rune is associated with perfection and the
conscious application of the individual's will.
It embodies the idea of this will being directed
toward the common good of an entire group.
People are the main influence and focus in the M-rune.
It stands for the social order and shows how,
through this order, you can achieve your full potential
on a human and divine level of being. When Mannaz
comes up in a reading, it can indicate legal affairs
and matters of mutual cooperation. The negative polarity
can point to a potential enemy or someone who is
hindering or undermining you. In addition, Mannaz may
indicate worry about your social status, or getting
caught up in social hierarchies, such as peer or
political groups.
The Rune of Man connotes friends, enemies, and
interdependence; it suggests that you need to seek
advice and rely on, or work with, others. Expect
stagnancy and obstruction when it's reversed.
In the supreme sense Mannaz is the symbol of
everything that is human, and this is why it
belongs to the sphere of Midgard /the Midworld/.
In practical sense this rune understands in itself
those who are personally connected with us, from the
closest circles of the family and friends to a
broader community. It reminds us of the human
nature - that of socializing animals. It also speaks
about our manners of getting connected with the
Gods (Ymir) and the Nature (two trees - Ask and Embla).
Takes the crude energy of Ehwaz and controls it
through establishment of social links and connections,
reminding us at the same time of feelings for the
deceased.
Mannaz is the rune that connects with Gebo, however being
much more complete. It couples female and male elements,
as well as all other interpersonal relationships
regarding the person in the centre, whose destiny is in
a mirror-like manner reflected by the network of
relations and relationships spoken of by Raido. The
past and the present, male and female, we and the
others - all these mutually opposing pairs exist in the
meaning of Mannaz and make a whole. Mannaz is our home,
however speaking of all those whose lives we touch with
our life.
When used in divination it signifies: the one who is
asking, family, community, relations, social connotations
i.e. meaning, social associations.

For use in magik: to stand for a specific individual,
or group of people; for establishment of social relations.

Mannaz reminds you that of exceptional importance
and significance for answer to your
question are your relations with others.
Necessity exists for you to appreciate
and accept conclusions by persons whose
opinions you respect.. Here the word is
not of any simple learning from others,
but rather of a healthy cooperation
that respects both your and other people's
opinions and ways of thought.
When drawn in its upright position Mannaz
means that the person asking the question
will gain big material profit if he/she
signs some certain documents thirty
days after the runes have been cast and
interpreted. What the documents are all
about is possible to learn if the house
occupied by the rune is analysed and
interpreted carefully, as well as the
rune's relations with other runes,
especially the closest ones. This rune
is connected with the soul and human
problems that often are announcement
of a new era, juster and nicer.
If the person asking the question is
in a position to make own decision as
for the date the documents are to be signed,
he/she is advised to do that in the first
full-Moon phase upon expiry of thirty days
after the day/date of spreading the runes.
In this manner maximum success would be reached
and gained from what the whole deal can offer.
If Mannaz is drawn in the reversed position,
to the one asking the question it says that
there are foes watching with keen attention
and lying in ambush waiting for a suitable
moment to jump on him/her. Possibility
exists to evade the trap, if correct
interpretation is given of the runes
lying on both sides next to Mannaz.
The two neighbouring runes offer advice
concerning way out of such a situation
suffering as little damage as possible,
or even making a U-turn to one's own benefit.
