Black & White - A tribute to the pencil

Whether producing a storyboarding for a TV advert or designing a show garden for Chelsea Flower Show, those at BIG salute the pencil.

It must be said that most B.I.G. Creatives avoid 6H and warm towards 4B but the thought of sketching out sculpt, murals or web site designs without a pencil in hand is barely thinkable.

It's the "whooosh" that makes B.I.G. creatives love them as they can almost be used to carve the expression of a creative's style upside down, in a lift, in rain or blazing sun without fear of anything other than a broken lead - just imagine life without a smooth thick graphite stick at work on flowing hand lettering design.

We chose a pencil as our BIG logo in the early 1990's as it was so important to all of us. Today the BIG logo is under revision to re-emerge reflecting the

As yet, no stylus, no ballpoint, no brush or nib can create the edgy subtlety of the mind instructed pencil-holding-hand and two of our members hold school workshops on this subject.

To be able to draw well is a neccessity of good communication. All quality communication comes from the passion within and to the pencil, as a loyal translator of feelings, we offer this tribute and our thanks to the many companies that manage to bore little holes down the middle of thin wooden poles ... How do they do that! Rexel Cumberland knows.
