I have spent well over 2 decades scouting out places to sink around southern BC, starting around 1980 to 1988 around Kamloops, and then 1988 to the present here around the north Okanagan. 1998 was a banner year thanks to the past El Niņo of the century! Being one of the driest summers on record, water levels had dropped substantially, resulting in many bogs to choose from. However, I stuck with certain favorites. 2001, when the newer pix were taken, wasn't the best year, since at the time we were recovering from two previous years of La Niņa. But, I made the best of the wet, unseasonably cold conditions for the newer pix!

Below is a clickable index map of my most frequented part of my boggy domain. More maps of other boggy domains will be added in the future. The green squares have clickable links to descriptions and pictures of some of my bogs, as well as self-photos of me sinking into some of those soft spots. The yellow spots mark other places with deep/shallower mud I have encountered. Many places are either exposed late in the season, only during dry summers, and/or have some risk of being seen by loggers, fishermen, or other outdoor enthusiasts. Overall, so long as things stay dry, the conditions peak in late summer when the water levels are lowest, exposing more mud and thickening mud that was exposed earlier.

Please note that this was the first time I tried taking pix like these, sort of an experiment. I was faced with poor lighting conditions, and my self-pix of my sinks involved rough, sometimes blind, aiming of the camera. Sincere thanks to Crysanna for her time and effort to get the pix developed and scanned in for me, helping to make this site possible. Also special thanks to the gentleman who was kind enough to take pictures of me sinking in 2001.
