The bogs in this area are part of a chain along a stream which runs from the
mud lake pond and empties into the main stream in the larger meadow to the east.

This is looking roughly south at what was one of my cleaning ponds which is usually full of water, but due to excessively dry weather conditions, had become another mud pit! Hadn't checked out the depth this time, but had found waist to shoulder deep mud in places when there was water there, and the mud was thinner. It was tempting, but the lack of immediate cleaning areas was a deterrent. The stream connecting this pond-turned-mudhole to the intermediate bog upstream contains deep mud as well, although somewhat coarse and choked with sticks, courtesy of the busy beavers!

This is looking roughly southeast along another mud bog to the northwest of the above cleanup pond. The exposed mud had begun to develop a shallow carpet of vegetation, and treading lightly on top of the more supportive areas felt like walking on top of a mattress. Depth had ranged from knee to waist deep, with some spots seeming to be over my head, although I hadn't fully checked it out, being in favor of WAMming in other spots. Once again, I had wished that there was a decent cleaning area nearby, so that I could sink right in!
To the northwest (opposite direction - not shown) is the other half of the same mud bog, containing a spot where I had WAMmed for several years, working the mud to a depth of around 8 feet! When it was thinner, several years ago, it was deep enough for me to reach straight up with my fingers without touching the surface! It had since then shrunk as it thickened. Oh, how I wanted so very badly to let it suck me down once again! But at least I had other great places!
