The fourth Federation ship to bear the name, the ambassador-class Enterprise-C played a crucial role in the relationship between the Federation and the Klingon empire. Little information is available about the Enterprise's missions and accomplishments before 2344, when the ship responded to a distress signal from the Klingon outpost on Narendra III. When the Enterprise arrived, there were 4 Romulan warbirds atacking the outpost. The Enterprise-C engaged the Romulans in order to defend the outpost. Heavy weapons fire combined with a volitile area of space caused a rift to form in the space/tiime continuum. The Enterprise-C entered the rift and appeared 22 years into the future into an alternate future in which the Enterprise-D was a Federation warship at war with the Klingons. The disappearance of the Enterprise-C at Narendra III caused the future to be altered drastically, so the ship had to return. The Enterprise-C's captain, Rachel Garrett, was killed before the return but the ship continued back through the rift under the command of Richard Castillo. The Enterprise-C returned to the battle with the Romulans and was destroyed. However, the Klingons acknowledged the Enterprise's act of heroism and considered their actions an act of honor.
