The following information has been provided by Cork Sinn Fein, and more additional local information can be viewed at their own website by clicking the following link.

                              Cork Sinn Fein

Cork, well known as "The Rebel County", has a long and proud tradition for being at the fore front of Republicanism in Ireland. Being Irelands largest county, it has a widespread, and fast growing Sinn Fein presence. This page includes information from across the county.

The current Cork Sinn Fein Councillor Jonathan O Brien resides in the Cork North Central Constituency. We in Cork Sinn Fein hope to see our South Central Sinn Fein Representative Henry Cremin accompany Jonathan on the Cork Corporation as a republican voice for the people of Cork South Central in the very near future.

Cork City

The Cork Sinn Fein Ogranisation is mostly based in the City with the Sinn Fein Office on Barrack Street providing the central point of delegation and organisation.

North Central

The City structure is basic. The North Central Constituency is where our current Councilor Jonathan O Brien resides, and where he is a member of the Countess Markievicz Sinn Fein Cumman. There are two other Sinn Fein Cumman in that ward. The Tony Ahern / Dermot Crowley Sinn Fein Cumman and The Traolach McSuibhne Sinn Fein Cumman.

The Traolach McSuibhne Cumman works mainly in the Bishopstown / Model Farm Road area of the City, which is in Cork South Central,  although their area is still part of the North Central Constituency.

South Central
As part of the South Central ward, there is three more Sinn Fein Cumman. The Donnacha De Barra / Diarmuid O Neill Sinn Fein Cumman reside in the Mahon / Blackrock area and their ward covers that and the Ballintemple and Ballinlough area too. Going west from the city the McSweeney / Ahern Sinn Fein Cumman is established in Passage West just a couple of miles from the city and they saw their candidate in the local elections poll very well two years ago. On the South East ward there is a Sinn Fein Cumman in the Carrigline area. There is also a newly formed Sinn Fein structure in Ballincollig, which again would be south west of the city

Ogra Sinn Fein

In terms of Ogra (Youth) structure there is an Ogra Sinn Fein group active in the City and is based in the Sinn Fein Office. The group makes up the youth of the local Cumman and other members. The is a very active Sinn Fein group in The Cork Institute Of Technology (C.I.T) although they have only been set up in the past term, they have won best Society Award and joint Best Political Society in a recent College Society Award Night. They will be hoping to repeat the same success this term.

County Cork

Moving out of the City and towards the County, Cork Sinn Fein has six Cummana. Due to the large geographical spread of the county, they are very distant from each other.

In Cork East, the sea side town of Youghal has The Hughes/ O Reilly Sinn Fein Cumman. Sinn Fein has a long standing Urban District Councillor in Youghal, and also a very active Ogra Shinn Fein. Youghal proudly boasts only Republican Flute Band south of Dublin, the Youghal Volunteers Republican Flute Band (See their page on their link.)

Youghal Republican Flute Band

Cork North has one Sinn Fein Cumman residing in Mitchelstown. The Farrell / McCann/ Savage Sinn Fein Cumman has been active in the past year or so. This cummann has seen great gains made in the North Cork Constituency.

The Sinn Fein structure in the West Cork Region starts with the Charlie Hurley Sinn Fein Cumman in Bandon. This Cumann has only been in existence for the past couple of months, but is proving to be a very consistent one. There is also an Ogra Shinn Fein group there too.

Following on from Bandon, the next Cumman is the Martin Doherty Sinn Fein Cumman in Clonakilty. This Cuman has proven to be a very organised one with an Urban District Councilor and a newly formed Ogra Shinn Fein group. The organisation continues to be a vital voice in the tourist town.

Still along the West Coast another Sinn Fein Cumman resides. Here in Skibbereen, The Francis Hughes Sinn Fein Cumman is another newly formed structure and has been active in setting up an Ogra Shinn Fein group which will provide the Cumman with a Youth Voice.

The last of the West Cork Cumman is in Bantry. The McDonnell / O Shea Sinn Fein Cumman is the last of the newly formed Cumman in that ward.

In most of the areas above there have been Hunger Strike Marches to honor the 1981 Martyrs (See Hunger Strikers Page) and there is more planned. As you may have noted each Sinn Fein Cumman has a name. The names of the Cumman are the names of fallen Volunteers of Oglaigh Na hEireann and they are remembered in this way.

As you may have noted reading the Sinn Fein party structure page, each Cumman in the City can forward their Representative to the Comhairle Ceantair (District Executive). This is usually the Chairperson of the Cumman. The Comhairle Ceantair meets every two weeks. The Cork Office is also the Munster Cuige Office, therefore the Monthly meetings of the Cuige (Regional Executive) meet there and the Cumann in the west, North and East Cork have their input here, as well as Waterford, Limerick, Tipperary, Kerry and Cork.

Cork Sinn Fein and Sinn Fein Nationally are constantly looking for members who are willing to uphold the republican agenda and who wish to be active in political change. If you have any questions or if you wish to join Sinn Fein in any of the areas mentioned above, contact Cork Sinn Fein at
