1. Surrey refers to teams in the County of Surrey, other than those from the Parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew.

2. Teams that submit an entry will be ranked by the Jamaica Chess Federation based on a number of factors, including but not limited to, placing in the last season and known Jamaica Chess Federation rating of players attending the school. Schools with little or no chess experience will be ranked in alphabetical order.

3. Schools with more than one team will have their teams in separate zones as far as possible (See table above for new Zone Setup). This will therefore supercede ranking where necessary.

4. Teams within each Zone will play a single round robin in the preliminaries against other teams in their Zone if there are four (4) or more teams in the Zone. If there are less than four (4) teams, a double round robin will be played

5. At the end of the preliminaries, the first placed team from each of the eight (8) Zones indicated above will go directly to the Round of 16, where they will be ranked again, this time based on their performance (percentage score) during the preliminaries, the strength of the opponents that they faced and the average JCF rating of their team. This Group of first placed teams will be called ‘Pool A’.

6. At the end of the preliminaries, all third placed teams from each Zone will play in a three (3) round Swiss tournament to identify the top two third place teams. This Group of third place teams will be called ‘Pool C’.

7. Once the Pool C Swiss Tournament has been completed, the top two third place teams will join all the second place teams from each Zone to form ‘Pool B’. Pool B will engage in a one-day, four (4) round Swiss Tournament to identify the top 8 from this group, who will go on to face the Pool A teams in the Round of 16.

8. The Round of 16 is a knock-out format which will be paired as follows:

R16 Match #
1 #1 Team from Pool A vs #8 Team from Pool B
2 #2 Team from Pool A vs #7 Team from Pool B
3 #3 Team from Pool A vs #6 Team from Pool B
4 #4 Team from Pool A vs #5 Team from Pool B
5 #5 Team from Pool A vs #4 Team from Pool B
6 #6 Team from Pool A vs #3 Team from Pool B
7 #7 Team from Pool A vs #2 Team from Pool B
8 #8 Team from Pool A vs #1 Team from Pool B

9. The Round of 16 will be played on a date to be announced in January 2005, with the first four matches in the morning (10 A.M – 12:30 P.M.) and the last four in the afternoon (1:30 A.M – 3 P.M.).

10. The eight (8) winners from the Round of 16 will move on to the Quarterfinals, where they will be paired as follows:

Quarterfinal #
1 Winner R16 Match 1 vs Winner R16 Match 8
2 Winner R16 Match 2 vs Winner R16 Match 7
3 Winner R16 Match 3 vs Winner R16 Match 6
4 Winner R16 Match 4 vs Winner R16 Match 5

11. The four (4) winners from the Quarterfinals will move on to the semifinals which will be paired as follows:

Semifinal #
1 Winner Q Match 1 vs Winner Q Match 4
2 Winner Q Match 2 vs Winner Q Match 3

12. The finals will take place between the winner of each semifinal match.
