The Outsiders is based on the rule breaking novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton. It tells the story of the two sides of town back in 1966. There were the soc and the greasers. The soc had all the money, the greasers were poor and usually didn't come from good homes. There was constent war between the two sides. Then one day when fourteen-year-old Ponyboy gets in a fight with his brothers Darrel and Sodapop he runs away with his friend Johnny. The night that Johnny and Ponyboy run away they get into a fight with the soc and Johnny ends up stabbing one of them.
The boys go to their friend, Dallas for help. Dallas helps them hide-out in an old abandon church until the cops stop looking for them. They're there for days until Dallas comes and picks them up. Johnny and Ponyboy both decide that they want to confess to stabbing the soc, since it was only for self-defence. On the way back home though the church burns down with a couple of young kids still stuck in it. So Ponyboy, Dallas, and Johnny end up being heros for saving so many lives but Johnny's still a criminal for killing that soc. The authorities can't send Johnny away because he needs to be hospitalized for the bad burns he gets in the fire and people can't decide whether to look at him as a hero for saving the children or murder.
This movies an extremely emotional one and has some expetional acting in it especially by Ralph Macchio, Matt Dillon, and C. Thomas Howell. The book set a new standard for young adult lititure and is considered a modern classic. Anyone who has read the book should see the movie and vice versa.
