Mankind's bane

I hate Harry Potty.

Know why?

It's the symbol of man's addiction to television. Yes, yes I heard you saying that it is a book. But really, does its elements follow that of a good book? Does its wholly good or wholly bad characters is typical of a good book? Is the story of Harry's parents and how they died a good sub-story for a book? Rather, it is more likely a good sob story for a movie, that what it is. Is Cornelius 'something' a very typical character in a movie? You know, you always have this bumbling non-believer in every movie. Very typical 'good-bad-guy' thing.

Whatmore, the characters are so stereotypical. Like the Harry is the typical good boy with wicked relatives (orphan too!) and Ron is the typical mischevious boy and Hermione is the typical studious nerd.

Fantasy schmantasy

Bah. It isn't even REAL children fantasy, at that. Diana Wynne Jones could do it better with her 'Charmed Life' . Granted, her other books weren't as good.

Or what about Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series. They were very ... good. A bit more complicated than what you expect of children's fantasy, but nonetheless good. Imaginative, entertaining and very touching, and yet not sacrificing prose and quality of language. The characters mature throughout the book, from showing arrogance and ignorance, they exhibit adult-like qualities, after a long struggle with themselves.

Harry Potty's is very clear-cut, no second paths about it, no struggle of good and evil within himself, basically, nothing that makes Harry a hero. The addition of Harry's crush on Cho Chang makes the series seem like Sweet Valley Twins with broomsticks.

Better than nothing

Well, I guess, since reading is on a decline as 'World's most popular hobbies', Harry Potty did boost up reading levels worldwide.

It also made very good toilet paper.

Rewind!

Obviously , 'recap' instead of 'rewind' would be a better word, but 'rewind' has 6 letters as opposed to 5 for 'recap'. Anyway, I like the letter 'w'.

So, the past week and several days I have been doing lots of things. Yup, lots of things. May I repeat myself: lots of things. You are asking me what things? Well, it doesn't matter, obviously, right, cos the last holiday, I just slept and ate. This is obviously an improvement. Obviously.

Obviously I am repeating myself. My friend says that repeating is a form of nervousness. I think not! I think she is wrong, anyhow.

'nyway, I went to Pangkor during my hols, and I came back smelling like ... myself, and got extremely tanned. I also got slimmer, but I can feel the kilos piling on again. I didn't go with my family- you can see that, can't you?- obviously, because if I went with my parents, we would spend all our time eating and driving round the island to see stuff, and I will grow fat.

Oh yeah, I have been addicted to this website- Blogshares. This website lets you buy and sell shares- like a real stock market, see?- and the value of a blog is based on the number of incoming links. You can play it even without your own blog.

Actually, if you didn't have your own blog it would be better. Like, see, I think my blog is absolutely ... useless, and I dumped all my shares in my blog once I got it. This is extremely embrassing confession.

I just went to the library yesterday and got myself some books.

Douglas Adams- The Dirk Gently Omnibus
Diana Wynne Jones- The Lives of Christopher Chant
Jasper Fforde- Lost in a Good Book
Philip Pullman- Northern Lights

Pretty nice ones, I must say.

The most painful words

The words that can hurt you most are not "Let's just be friends" or "Stick up your hands, this is a robbery" or "You lost" or even "I hate you", but they are "I could have" and "I should have".

Horray.

Yay. I just finished my exam. Now I have the time to do the things I really want to do like... er.... er... er.....

Er..

You know, stuff. Like er.. what cool people do when they have extra time. Like er...er...taking books in the library and not putting it back into place. Ah yes, that's so cool. Or calling other people and putting down the phone when they answer. One can make a lot of friends that way. I will be so absolutely totally cool.

About my week-old corpse..

Someone asked me to put stuff about my love life. Yes, well, I would if I had one. My 'love life' is deader than a week-old corpse. Unless you are counting obsessing about Spike on 'Buffy'.

For other obsessed people,

Yes, you are obsessed if you want to go to Cambridge Uni. So here's a link. I know you want it bad...

If it is so obvious, don't point it out.

Yes I know I haven't been updating

Excuses can annoy the world.

I have an exam. Soon. Real soon. Real real soon. Extremely real soon. Will be writing back in a week.

Will the Real -umm- please stand up?

Ok, there is someone using Dartmouth's server who has been reading my page. Either thar or something is seriously wrong with my statistics thing. So I am guessing the person is studying in Dartmouth. Whoever you are, please email me.
