Meet Susan Dudasik:

As a freelance equine journalist, I have published scores of How-To articles on general training, riding fundamentals, breed disciplines, events, as well as celebrity pieces and book reviews. Some of my work is available for reprint usage for a fee. Below is a sampling.

I have been published in Driving Digest, Horse Illustrated, Horse Power, Pony Press, Cascade Horseman, Farm & Ranch, Horse Sports, Horsemen's Voice, John Lyon's Perfect Horse, Quarter Horse Journal, Western Horseman, Ride/Western Times, Mules & More, JAH magazine, HorseCity.com, Western Ag Reporter and Ag Weekly to name a few.

My credentials include membership in the Idaho Press Club, the North America Saddle Mule Assn., as well an Idaho representative for the American Trail Horse Assn. I have 35 years of experience in the equine industry in various disciplines, and more than 25 years as an equine journalist. Additionally I have years of experience holding Trail fundamental clinics in California, Florida, and Idaho. I am also heavily involved in 4-H as a Club Leader, often attending the annual Western Regional Leader's Forum, and teaching Trail classes at the Idaho State 4-H Camp in Alpine, Wyoming. Currently I offer custom-tailored private and group Horsemanship classes for riders.

Aboard my favorite mount Josephine, a Thoroughbred molly mule, I competed successfully in open show English, Western, jumping, reining, and packing events for a number of years against horses, and even captured the title of World Champion Green Trail Mule in 1987 at the infamous Bishop Mule Days, which later led to an invitational ride in the prestigious 100th Tournament of Roses Parade. Sadly now, Josie is deceased. My new riding companion these days is Otto Watch Ginger (Gin), another incredibly talented mule who's slowly proving in the show ring that she can hold her own against a field of horses in English and Trail. Ginger was the first mule to receive ATHA's (American Trail Horse Assn) Level Seven Stamp of Excellence award.

There's a quote from book called "The Modern Mule" by Paul & Betsy Hutchins that surmises Mules best, and I love it:

"There are those who will make fun of your mule. The best defense against them is to... get a good looking mule... and then just show the jokers, don't try to argue... those who came to originally scoff will stay to cheer, it happens all the time... If your mule is worth something to you... he will soon be to others as well... Remember, pride of Ownership is infectious."
