Article #4 - SUCCESSFUL EVENTS BEGIN WITH EARLY PLANNING

No PhotosThe cold winds are blowing, the horses are nestled in the barn and you're propped up by a warm fire, thoughts of horse shows, ropings and other equine events are far from your mind, unless of course, if you happen to be a member of an organizing committee.
To host a successful event, its never to early to get started on the basics, like the type of event, date and place. The best way to assure an event's failure is by not allowing enough time to promote it. In many areas the equine community is a close-knit group that often depends on word of mouth to promote their events. But times are changing. People are moving in and out of communities. They are becoming first-time horseowners and more than ever before, they are willing to travel longer distances for events. For the equine community to grow with the times, event organizers can no longer depend on word of mouth alone to assure success. They need to develop a good promotional program which involves more than posting a few flyers at the local feed and tack shops or writing a short article for the club newsletter...etc.
