Article #5 - EQUINE EXHIBITS TAKE CREATIVITY

Photos AvailableIts expo time and your horse club has decided to set up an exhibit at an up-coming event. Now what? Creating an interesting display booth can be a fun challenge if you allow it to be.
First, find out where and what type of display area you have to work with. Generally, horse clubs are placed either in the barn area or in the commercial building. Where you end up will be a big factor in what can be done. How much room will you have and will there be access to electricity? Are there any types of restrictions on the type of decorations? Is there a wall to hang things on? Get as much information as you can about the area and, if possible, visit the site beforehand.
Often at smaller expos, horse clubs set up in the barn area, either in an empty stall or in the shed row. This limits what can be done without blocking traffic. For stall decorations, keep things simple since folks will be getting ready for their demonstrations and caring for their horses.
Good stall decorations dont have to be expensive or exotic, but should tell something about the horses and club. Arrange for all club members horses to be stabled together and the stalls uniformly decorated. A simple idea is to tack or tie colored flat sheets or plastic shower curtains to the stall as inexpensive stall drapes. Make name signs out of poster board and cover with clear contact paper, then hang a few action photos of each horse. Add a banner with the club name and viola! instant exhibit area...etc.
