Alright then, let's see if we are guilty.
As you read keep a mental note of each that you have failed to obey.
The Ten Commandments
1. You shall have no other god's before me.
(This means that God should be the most important thing in your life. Is He?)
2. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it.
(Don't worship anything other than God.)
3. Do not use my name for evil purposes.
(How many times have you used God's name as a swear/cuss word?)
4. Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy.
(Do not neglect the things of God. Have you?)
5. Respect your father and your mother.
(Have you always done this?)
6. Do not commit Murder.
(No I never did. Really, not even in you heart. Jesus said, "..I tell you; whoever is angry with his brother will be brought before the judge." (Matthew 5.21) Do you still think your innocent?)
7. Do not commit adultery.
(Again don't be too hasty in your answer. You see Jesus also said, "Anyone who looks at a woman and wants to possess her is guilty of committing adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5. 28) Still innocent?)
8. Do not steal.
(Now this also means those perks from work or the office, are not perks unless the boss said you could take them. The value or size of the item is totally irrelavent, theft is theft.)
9. Do not lie.
(That may have been a 'little white lie' in a 'good cause', but again lying is lying. How many cars do I have to steal to be a theif? Just one. - How many times do I need to use God's name as a swear word to be a blasphemer? Just once. - How many people do I need to kill to be a murderer? Just one!)
10. Do not desire another man's house; do not desire his wife; or anything that he owns
(In short do not want what others have got)
So how did you do?
It does not matter how many you may have broken, just failing in one makes you guilty of breaking all. There is no difference."Whoever breaks one commandment is gulity of breaking them all." (James 2. 10: GNB)
But do not panic, you are exactly the same as the rest of us in this. None of us measure up, none of us are as good as we think we are. But then we already knew that, from our own conscience. Every time we do something that is wrong we get the guilts because in our heart we know we shouldn't have done what we did.
Or perhaps you think that this is just religious and if I'm not religious, then it dosen't matter. If that is your thinking then you are misleading yourself or being mislead. Sin is not just a religious way of expressing illegal or immoral behavior but by definition it encompasses all that we do. Religion or no religion.
