What Is Sin?

Sin Is Not Just Some Religious Term

This fact is totally over looked by almost everybody. While the term may have it's origins in a religious belief, it is not just some religious term. The term actually encompasses every immoral and illegal act ever carried out by anybody, under any law. So if any of us think we are clean because we do not believe, then we had better think again.

Sin is Religions Way Of Trying To Scare People Into Belief.

If it was just that, then we humans wouldn't have as many problems as we do, in trying to live together in peace and harmony. Respecting each others property, values and beliefs. Sin is more than just a religious way of trying to frighten you or I into becoming "religious." Sin is inherent to our human nature. We cannot escape it, we cannot hide from it, and we most certainly cannot overcome it totally.

Even the "religious" understand that. In fact that is why they are religious. Because they know they are unable to overcome that inherent trait. If they were arrogant enough to think they were alright, or better than most and "good", they wouldn't be religious.

The World Says

From Websters Dictionary;

  1. "A transgression of duty, morality or law, especially in relation to God;
    • wickedness, a transgression.
  2. any illegal or immoral act or behavior". (Websters Dictionary)

From the above definition I would suggest that 'sin' is not just some religious way of expressing an unlawful or immoral action. Although most often used in relation to religion and failure to obey God's commandments. The word and it's meaning encompass our everyday actions in worldly terms as well.

Every time that we fail in an obligation to another or behave in an illegal manner we are sinning. We may pass our sin off as, "a little white lie," or "a perk of our job." But that does not change the fact that what we have done is illegal, and immoral, and therefore sinful. Whether we believe in God and the salvation offered by him through Jesus or not, the fact remains that everyday we fall short in some way or other, and thus we are all sinners.
