Don't Worry Be Happy
So what is wrong in trying to be happy and fulfilled?
In one word, Nothing. You see it is not whether we are happy or not that is the problem, although being unhappy and having no sense of fullfilment does eventually cause us all kinds of problems. The real human problem is the self-centered way we attempt to be happy and fullfiled. We ignore God - We dismiss God - Because we are self-centered. This passage of scripture sums it up.
"There is no one who is righteous, no one who is wise or who worships God. All have turned away from God; they have all gone wrong; no one does what is right, not even one." (Romans 3.11-12: GNB)
It is not that we are not meant to be happy, and know fullfilment and peace. It is that we willingly refuse to accept the fact that God is! And only He can really give us what we are running around in ever increasing circles to find. But as we refuse to acknowledge Him we can never really find what we are looking for. Yes, we find glimpses of that in satisfying our desires in the natural realm. However what we are looking for cannot be found in the natural realm.
God is a Triune Being - So are we.
The Bible teaches us in many places that we are made by God, in His image. In the original texts this actually means, that when God made us in His image. He mirrored Himself in us.
The Bible also teaches us that we are triune beings. Just as God exists in three manners or forms, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We mirror His image, we are Spirit beings within, walking this planet in our physical body and relating to each other and our enviroment through our body and our soul, which is our intellect, emotions, mind.
But we can only relate to and understand God through our spirit. Therefore, as long as we keep trying to find that happiness and fullfilment through our soul and body we never can or will succeed. Jesus the Christ, (God in His Physical Form) told us,
"I am telling you the truth: no one can see the Kingdom of God without being born again."(John 3. 3: GNB) and He also said in relation to this that, "No one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of the water and the Spirit. A person is born physically of human parents, but is born spiritually of the Spirit."(John 3. 5-6 GNB)
So with the spirit still unborn the only thing we humans have to go by is our physical body and our soul. Is it then any wonder that we become slaves to the treadmill chasing a dream that dissolves the moment we almost attain it.
