SINAGBAYAN reaches out and upholds the particular struggles of various communities and achieves its objective of studying, creating and popularizing nationalist, mass-oriented and scientific art and literature which present the life and struggle of the Filipino massses. |
At the Payatas resettlement area, SINAGBAYAN performed "Awit ng Payatas" ("Song of Payatas") which depicts the Payatas tragedy in July 2000, wherein a massive "garbage-slide" caused destruction of property, dislocation of families and death.� SINAGBAYAN continues to support the Payatas community's campaign against demolition and militarization. |
SINAGBAYAN continuously participates in the yearly celebration of the Aeta Day held every August. Every year, SINAGBAYAN launches various activities such as mural-making, performances, educational discussions and workshops on theater and visual arts to strengthen the campaign against land-grabbing, land-use conversion and militarization. |
SINAGBAYAN participates in the Cordillera Day held each April, in celebration of the Earth Day and in commemoration of the martyrdom of Macliing Dulag, the tribal chieftain who led the people in defending their right to ancestral domain and in opposing the construction of the Chico Dam. |
KMM - or Kapisanan ng mga Mandudula sa Marikina (Association of Theater Artists in Marikina) is an affiliate organization under SINAGBAYAN, composed of youth from the Marikina community. |
At present, SINAGBAYAN is focusing on strengthening its community chapter in Barangay Commonwealth by continuously holding workshops and productions. Aside from the perennial problem of demolition in the area, the barangay is currently besieged by military troops harrassing local progressive organizations. |
