Letterset
Goal:
The student will select a set of guidelines, which will allow the standard
26 letter English alphabet to be drawn in. A horizontal sheet with the 26
letters, a horizontal sheet with the student’s own name, and a horizontal
sheet of the ten digits are all due on: _________________.
Materials:
9” X 12” scratch paper graph
paper pencil tape
8 ½” X 11” white paper
felt pen ruler
a willingness to follow
directions
Steps:
1.) Doodle about, trying various
styles and designs until you are happy!
Keep these items in mind when designing...
don’t copy other’s work, please. Delight in your own creations!!
SHAPE
THICK Vs THIN THEME
ADD-ONS CROSSBAR HEIGHT
HOMEWORK: Design the first FIVE
letters of our alphabet (A, B, C, D, and E) in five different
ways.
2.) From the
above homework select only one idea and draw out all 26 majuscule (capital)
letters. Do not worry if a certain letter cannot be gotten just yet. Leave
a spot and go on to number 3, below.
3.) Decide on the number of graph
squares for your basic letter shape, both in height and width. Be sure to
establish the external shape at this point as well. Duplicate this shape on
the graph paper twenty-six times and have it decoratively centered on the
paper! Be sure that all 26 fit on this paper!! Don’t draw the letters yet,
that’s the next step . . .
4.) Now roughly, and lightly
pencil in all letters being sure to completely fill
the area set aside for that letter.
It is at this
point that all the major work for the assignment is completed,
all you need do is to put in quality time and effort to make final copies of
all the required samples.
5.) Carefully place a plain white
paper over the original and lightly trace the letter set. Now go over
the tracing in black felt pen to finish it. Carefully put your name,
date and period number on the lower, back, right-hand corner, in pencil, and
place it out of harm’s way. Do this for all work to be graded for credit.
An Idea:
Take a piece of scratch paper and measure 3 times the middle, horizontally.
Draw a line at the middle. Now do the same for up and down and draw that
line.
6.) Make a rough copy of your first
& last name, neatly centered by following the directions above, or on graph
or paper.
7.) Now trace and complete it as you
did your 26 letters in steps 4&5 above.
8.) Make a rough copy of your
digits, neatly centered as above, or on graph paper.
9.) REPEAT STEPS #5&6 with your
digits.
Have all three
required papers ready for turning in. Use your rough alphabet sheet to
trace off the miniscule (small) letters if time still exists.
Grading Rubric:
an " A "
All 3 finished papers in, all neat, all correctly done
Your full name, date, and then period number is on the lower, back,
right-hand corner of EACH one
a " B "
Neatness may be off a bit, some errors may exist, maybe you only have 2
correctly done
Your full name, date, and then period number should be on the lower, back,
right-hand corner of EACH one
a " C "
Neatness is an issue, errors exist even though pointed out, maybe only one
is correct or??
Only 1 done
Your full name, date, and then period number should be on the lower, back,
right-hand corner of EACH one
a " D "
The work done is minimal, at best. The work may be incomplete.
Surely all 3 can't be nearly correct
The suggestions posted have not been carefully followed. Little help
of others has been asked for
Your full name, date, and then period number should be on the lower, back,
right-hand corner of EACH one
an " F "
This means that you have failed to follow the directions in many ways.
You should pay better attention to details and ask for more help from your
fellow classmates. You should be checking with the teacher to be sure
that what you have been told by them is correct. You should have
checked out the bulletin board and are following the directions. When
you do what is outlined here you will not EARN a failing grade. Ask
for help after school when you have the relaxed time to understand and ask
questions without interference from others. I DO care, work with me,
please.
