General Class Objectives

Syllabus Worksheets Work to Date

The objectives for the students are really quite simple.  I want the students to learn some of what ART is and to gain experience in producing art.  I want them to see that all people are artists and that everyone can improve with practice and experience.

The 7th grade class focuses on differing materials and processes; the 8th grade class covers some critical Art Movements and some commercial aspects, all building on what was covered last year.  Impressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism are high on my list to cover.  We will again cover the regular pencil and the colored pencil and we will explore creative imagination.  I still do not allow the use of copyrighted designs,  nor do I condone using trite symbols.  Learning how to plan for a project, do the work and turn it in on time is a skill that is useful in any walk of life.

In this class the students will produce art and critique their work and that of their classmates.  They will view professional artists' works, that of the teacher, and of other past student work.  Art that is of many different cultures will be covered for we are not only a product of Western Art.

Your student will see that if they turn in all projects they will EARN a C- or higher; that is my promise to them to take the class seriously.  Extra credit work is allowed but it is to be understood that a project is worth ten times as much, or more.  To fix a project is far better than trying to let "extra Credit" do the trick.

Parents are always encouraged to visit my classroom without any need for prior arrangements, just be sure to sign in as visitors with the office staff first.

Come and see what your child is capable of becoming!
