Tourism

The beaches in the region are a great asset to the tourism industry. Their destruction could actually damage the entire industry on which the economic fortunes of many of the territories depend. Climate change and sea level rise would affect this industry both directly and indirectly in the following ways:

• Loss of beach to erosion and inundation

• Salinisation of fresh water aquifers

• Increasing stress on coastal ecosystems

• Damage to infrastructure from tropical storms
